Eagle Crest Family Newsletter

Principal's Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families,
As you know, at Eagle Crest we are always working to improve our practice and think creatively and innovatively as we strive to support students and families to be the best that they can be. Throughout COVID, we have not only survived, but thrived, implementing new curriculum, facilitating learning across a variety of platforms and models, and continuing to incorporate unique programming like our leadership focus, advanced STEM opportunities for all, and of course, our global outlook with our sister school partnership.
After reflecting on our students' academic growth and social connections in the last few years, our teachers and staff have made a plan to teach at one grade level, rather than changing grade levels each year. Our classroom teachers believe their focus on the instructional practices, standards and curriculum at one grade level will enable them to accelerate the achievement of all students. Our staff has always placed a high priority on building relationships with our students and among students. This will continue to be a priority for us as students transition to a new teacher each year as they advance through our school. Our staff is planning strategies that will help each student be excited about the coming school year.
Thank you for being such a supportive community for our students, staff, and school. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me.
Warmly,
Amanda

Mwebaza Sister School Update
Mwebaza Annex School and Eagle Crest have been working on their zoom call between the two schools. Both groups of students have been practicing to get ready for the all school zoom meeting that will take place Wednesday March 9th. After the Zoom call and a passion fruit toast to our partnership, all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be working on their Pen Pal projects that will be brought to Uganda with the team that is traveling on March 17th. Students in Uganda will be working on their projects to be brought back to Eagle Crest in April. In the spring, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd will be working on their activity that will be brought to Uganda in the summer. Everyone is excited for this upcoming live cross cultural exchange!
Mwebaza Annex Students have also been working with our gardening expert in Uganda and are learning all about sustainable gardening in an unpredictable rainy season mixed with drought conditions. Click on the link below to hear two students talking about gardening and one student teaching others about the cultural tradition of making Matoke.
In preparation for the March trip to Uganda, Eagle Crest is still collecting the red Laps for Leadership shirts in a bin near the school office.
They are also collecting gently-used smartphones, cameras or headphones/earbuds. Contact Mrs. Hansen (hillari@mwebaza.org) if you have any of these items to donate. Communication with our Uganda partner schools is crucial to the health of our mission. Newer (less than 5 years old) smartphones help us communicate regularly with the teachers and community members that are leading Mwebaza Foundation programs and projects. Additionally, cameras or phones with newer technology and higher quality lenses encourage creativity, art, and expression in students and teachers alike. Phones need to be unlocked and restored to their original settings.
Thank you!
March 9th is Mwebaza Chipotle Night!
