Box Tops March Madness

This is a contest between classes to see who can collect the most box tops. The class that collects the most box tops will win a class prize!!! Contest runs throughout March only. This is a great way to help raise money for your school and events for families. Please submit all box tops in a labeled envelope or plastic bag with student's name and teacher. Trimmed labels and in 50 count bags would really be appreciated. Box Tops offers three easy ways to earn cash for our school through everyday activities such as buying groceries, shopping on-line and purchasing books. 1. Clip the Box Top from hundreds of participating products and send them to school. Each one is worth 10¢ when our school redeems them from Box Tops for Education. 2. Shop at your favorite online stores through the Box Tops Marketplace® (boxtops4education.com/marketplace). Up to 15% of your qualifying purchase total is automatically donated to our school, at no additional cost to you. Plus, you’ll get exclusive Box Tops deals and discounts! 3. Buy books online through the Reading Room, a partnership between Box Tops and Barnes and Noble. Our school receives up to 6% of qualifying purchases. This is a free online registry to help classrooms get the learning tools they need. Our school earns a 2% cash donation with every qualifying purchase.

Family Fun Night at Launch Trampoline Park

Please see the flyer below. It is also coming home this afternoon. If you plan on attending, please fill out a waiver form. The web address to do this online is https://launchtrampoline.pfestore.com/waiver.

Trimester and Report Card Extensions

Trimester end date and report card distribution will be delayed a week due to all the snow days we have encountered the last 2 months. See above for the new dates, which are bolded.

Green Squad Award

The Chariho district received the Clean Energy Future Award as one of RI's outstanding leaders in student lead energy conservations. Congratulations to Mrs. Ricci who has lead school green squad team! Mr. G and Mrs. Ricci accepted the award for Chariho at the Expo Energy show last week in Providence. Hanna Smith, Laura Wood, Caroline Kendall, and Lizzy Kendall made the trek for this award show. See the pictures below.

Pawcatuck River Duck Race

The 17th annual Pawcatuck River Duck Race will be held in April. More information about this contest will follow. On March 30, we will begin our Duck Fundraiser. Your child will bring home an envelope and flyer. Please ask families, friends, co-workers to sponsor a duck. Contact the office if you need more information. Thanks for your support and come join us at the race to cheer for your duck!

Important Information

Please be sure all emails and notes to the office are sent to Ann Champlin (our clerk) as well. This is critical in case Mrs. Mac is not in. Her email is Ann.Champlin@chariho.k12.ri.us.

Spotlight Information

PARCC testing starts next week. Please take a moment to take a look at the schedule of testing sessions below. For examples of PARCC assessment problems, please visit http://parcc.pearson.com/practice-tests - Depending on what browser you use, the practice test items may not work properly. We use Mozilla Firefox, which works well. When you get to the site, you can click on the green English Language Arts Practice Tests or the Math Practice Test. Then click on the grade 3 or 4 link and go to computer based practice test. Students can practice these tests at home. All a child would have to do is type their first name and start the test

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Hope Valley Elementary School is to work in partnership with our colleagues, students and families. We are committed to creating a learning environment where children are expected to achieve their full potential.

Principal Giuseppe Gencarelli

Hope Valley School is one of four elementary schools in the Chariho Regional School District. In 2011, Hope Valley received the prestigious award of being named a Blue Ribbon School. What an honor for an incredible school. Currently there are about 250 pre-school through fourth grade students at Hope Valley School. In addition to general and special education programs, we also provide reading and mathematics support to students.

The Hope Valley School PTO is a very active organization. I encourage all parents to attend monthly meetings and to become involved in their child’s school. All school event dates and times can be found through a PTO link as well as on Events Calendar link on the district homepage. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer in the classroom or assist with field trips. All parent volunteers are required to complete a background check.

Our staff members work very hard to stay connected with all families through regular phone calls, email messages and personal meetings. Some teachers also maintain their own web pages to update families on current assignments and activities in the classroom.

Please consider signing up for my weekly email messages to learn about what is happening at Hope Valley School. To subscribe, please visit the district homepage, click on newsletters on the far right under latest information and then follow the directions to subscribe to the Hope Valley School parent list-serve.
