NEW BACKGROUND CHECK PROCESS
In an effort to update our volunteer background check process, we have recently made a transition to a digital ICHAT form. It is our hope that this will eliminate the need for paper copies and streamline the process. We realize that some of you may have already submitted a paper copy and been approved to volunteer.
We would ask that by November 1, 2022, any volunteer who previously submitted a paper copy of our previous background check form, submit a new request through our online link, which can be found on our website at: NCSD Chaperone & Volunteer Background Check Information.
We ask that all volunteers complete the online form as soon as possible, but please be assured that we will continue to allow those who have been previously approved since the start of the school year to volunteer until November 1, 2022.
After november 1, 2022, only volunteers who have submitted the new background check request and have been approved, may volunteer.
We apologize for the inconvenience of submitting the information twice, but hope that the benefits of this new method will be worthwhile.
Please keep in mind that if you plan on volunteering in multiple buildings, you must complete the request separately for each school. This will ensure that your information is routed to the correct building that you will be volunteering in.
We are incredibly grateful for all of our volunteers and hope that this new process will help our office staff process the requests in a timely manner, without needing to wait for a paper form to be delivered to the office, and provide you with an easier way to submit your request at your convenience.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP WEEK
Digital Citizenship Week kicks off on October 17th! Here are some daily activities that promote students' well-being. Plus, they'll reflect on how they can use technology to be a positive influence in their community. Use these conversation starters to help your kids talk about their digital lives:
NCSD in partnership with the NEF and Neighborhood Library Association are hosting a parent presentation and Q&A at Novi Middle School on October 18th called Keeping Kids Safe, Healthy and Happy in the Digital Age with Screenwise author, Dr. Devorah Heitner.
COUNSELORS CORNER
Over the past few years, we have had our School Resource Officer come talk with our students in the spring. Detective Julie Warren is one of Novi’s school resource officers who works mostly with the elementary and middle school buildings. She is housed at the middle school so she will be a familiar face for students when they move to Novi Middle School. These presentations have been a great opportunity for students to meet Detective Warren and begin to build a positive and trusting relationship. For the online safety presentations, topics covered include internet safety and risks, social media use, cyberbullying, and knowing the impact of our digital footprint. Detective Warren presented to our 6th grade students on Tuesday, October 4th and Thursday, October 6th. Please ask your child what they learned during this informative presentation! Below are recommended resources and tips for parents to explore regarding this topic. Additionally, there is a link to view Detectie Warren’s presentation. https://www.missingkids.org/netsmartz/resources https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ https://nationalonlinesafety.com/guides

TECH RESOURCES
New Student Acceptable Use Agreement
The NCSD Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) is a document signed by all students and parents/guardians. This agreement lists the proper technology and internet use that students are required to follow when using a district device, school account, or on the NCSD school network.
Family Tech Agreements
Similar to how classrooms may have device agreements, families can also create one to keep everyone accountable for their technology use at home. A family tech agreement is a great way to build healthy digital habits. Check out some resources below to get started.
