Weekly Update

From the Desk of the Principal

January 22, 2021

Dear Masconomet Middle School families,

As you can imagine, this has been a sad week for Masconomet Middle School. The obituary for Finn McCabe has been posted. Please view it here. It is a beautiful tribute to Finn and her life. We will all miss her greatly, and the school community is organizing support for the family as appropriate. Please know that the family has requested privacy at this point as well.

Upcoming Calendar Dates:

  • January 25- Staff Work Day- No School
  • January 26- Fully remote day for all students
  • January 27- Cohort B in-person
  • February 1- Delayed opening at 10:00 am
  • February 13-21- Winter Vacation

Masco Excels

Masco Excels registrations went out earlier this week. If your child is interested in participating, make sure you submit the paperwork to Mr. Cobb or have your son/daughter bring it to school and leave it in the yellow milk crate in front of the main office. Excels will begin the first week of February.

Yearbook Sales

Yearbooks can be purchased online for $20 by going to the following link:

Please be sure to have your child’s period 1 teacher’s name available as this information is needed in the purchasing process.

Mask Breaks

Mask breaks will continue outside through the winter season. Please make sure that your students wear appropriate cold weather clothing to school to be outside for 10 minutes.

Remote Learning Expectations

As a reminder, please review the Masconomet Remote Learning Expectations with your student again. I have received many questions this week about the use of device cameras while at home. The expectation is that cameras are turned on to begin class and for attendance. This is mandatory and unless directed by the teacher to turn off cameras, they should remain on for class. Students whose cameras remain turned off in class without permission will be referred to the Assistant Principal, Mr. Monagle.

Have a good weekend,

Phil McManus
