Principal's Message
You may have heard in the news recently that students have not bounced back academically to pre-pandemic levels. At Lakewood Creek, we have been feeling like we are closing the gap and love to celebrate the growth of all our students.
That said, we have incredible news to report. Three years ago, Lakewood Creek was given a "Summative Designation" of "Underperforming" by the State of Illinois. The designation is determined by factors including standardized test scores, attendance rates, student academic growth, parental involvement, etc. Scores are given to the overall school, and broken down by different student subgroups based on demographics. We were 'underperforming' with one subgroup, and therefore our school was labeled as such. Since then, we have worked very hard as a school to raise the performance of all our students, but we specifically targeted our subgroup most in need. We have been able to hire interventionists, purchase materials, and attend professional development as we tracked data to ensure we were being successful.
Over the pandemic, the State did not give out new Designations, so we remained in 'underperforming' status. Yesterday, new Summative Designations were made public. Lakewood Creek is now in "COMMENDABLE" status! This is the direct result of your child(ren)'s teacher(s) hard work and commitment to intentional instruction with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.
I am so proud of the work our staff has accomplished, and I look forward to continued growth.

Snow/Emergency Days
Parents/Guardians,
Snow/Emergency Day work packets will be sent home by next week for all grade levels. Please see individual teacher communications regarding specifics on where to locate the snow/emergency packets. In the event the school would need to close for snow/emergencies, the school day will run from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Teachers will be available by phone, email, and live in their Google Meets from: 9-9:30am, 11:30am-12pm and 1:30-2pm to support and answer any questions a child might have.
Student attendance is required for a snow/emergency day. The second page of each packet will be collected by the classroom teacher when school reopens. The students only need to bring THAT page back filled out by the parent. They do not need to bring the whole packet back to school. Please keep it in a safe place at home. We will be using this as our instructional tool for our snow/emergency days.
Please know that all elementary schools are following this same procedure. If you have any questions please email your classroom teacher for clarification.
Thank you.
