Author Gift

Two of our 4th grade students, Shreyas and Vaishnav, read a humorous folk tale in class that they really enjoyed. The boys wrote letters to the author, Carmen Agra Deedy, who is bilingual and also writes in Spanish. They shared in their letters that they are also bilingual and Ms. Deedy responded to them by sending them her book, "Martina the Beautiful Cockroach", with personalized messages.

Notes from the Nurse

As noted by Dr. Lang this week, we have seen an uptick in the number of positive cases of Covid-19 at Byam. Many of the cases are related to outside activities and household exposures.

We are also seeing cases of flu and Strep here and in the community.

Please continue to monitor your child daily for illness symptoms and keep home if not feeling well. If having Covid-19 symptoms, remember that a negative Covid-19 test or note from the doctor with an alternative diagnosis is required for return to school.

If your child or someone in the household tests positive or is considered a close contact, please follow the CPS Covid-19 Protocol (found on our website, under Health Services*1rifwcb*_ga*NzE1ODk2MjUzLjE2MjA2NTYyODM.*_ga_76RXLF75QZ*MTY1MjM1NjcyNy44Ni4wLjE2NTIzNTY3MjcuMA.) and also follow CDC isolation and quarantine guidelines.

Please continue to report cases of Covid-19, flu and Strep cases to me, either by phone or email.

Other strategies include receiving vaccination for Covid-19 and for flu, optionally wearing a mask, and keeping hands clean or sanitized.

Let's all work together for a safe and healthy rest of the school year!

Congratulations for our 3rd and 4th grade students for completing their Mathematics MCAS sessions this week. We're so proud of all our students for their diligent work during assessment days. We will be completing make-up testing next week.

RIDE TO SCHOOL WITH OZZIE!Woof! Woof! 🚓 🦴 🐾 Did you hear the news?! Byam students who raise more than $250 for the Walk-A-Thon will be entered into a chance to win a “Ride to School with Officer Ozzie” and Office Sullivan! Your child can collect donations by sharing this link: or by sending a check into school made out to “Byam School Association”!

Each week leading up to the Byam Walk-a-Thon we will be thanking some of or corporate sponsors. Please consider supporting these businesses the way they have supported Byam and the BSA!

The students are so excited for the 10th Annual Byam Walk-a-Thon, which is just a week away! The kids are doing a fabulous job raising money. So far they have raised over $8800!

Now we need to ensure that we make the event as fun as possible, and to pull it off we need your help! The planning has been done, but it takes more than 10 volunteers each hour to sell tickets, check walkers in, manage the photo booth, mark the loops that the kids walk, etc. Please take a look at the available spots and see if you can help out for an hour or two. It's much appreciated!
