From the Principal's Desk...
Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Tomorrow is the day that we begin the 2020-21 school year. The faculty and staff are excited to see all of our students return. Thank you all for your support of our Open House and computer orientation. It is very evident that we are all looking forward to being back together.
It should also be clear that we are very serious about advancing and improving our technology. We will continue these important efforts with our Technology Walk in the early fall and with our St. John’s School Spectacular in November. Your support of these initiatives is appreciated.
I am sure that it is also very clear that we have been and continue to do everything possible to provide a safe, secure and healthy environment for the return of our students, faculty and staff. We have been advised by local health officials that our plans and practices are excellent.
I recognize that our first few days will be a challenge. Our protocols for entering and leaving school are for everyone’s safety. We have mobilized additional staff to try to do this as well as possible, and we will continue to make adjustments. We will be admitting students 10 minutes earlier starting at 7:35 a.m. Please know that neither I nor the school office will be able to respond to calls or emails about concerns regarding how long it takes to do this. Your patience is needed and appreciated.
In this Sunday’s second reading (ROM 13:8-10), St. Paul reminds the Romans in the midst of their suffering and persecution of this, “Brothers and sisters: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” As we begin this school year with all of the sacrifices and challenges it will require, may we recognize that it is in and through this that we demonstrate our commitment to this Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another.
Peace,
Dan Minelli

arrival and dismissal procedures
ARRIVAL PROCEDURES
For the immediate future, students may arrive at school beginning at 7:35 A.M.
Do NOT leave your child unattended outside the building. Before school care is available at 6:50 A.M. in the After Care Room for a fee of $2.00 per student per day. Please see the Before/After Care section for more information regarding the Before Care Program.
Bus Riders and Walkers: Upon arrival, bus riders and walkers will enter through the door by the office (blue awning). Temperatures will be taken before entering the building. All students must then proceed to their classrooms.
Car Riders: Cars will enter the school lot from the driveway near the church cemetery and circle around toward the northwest corner of the school building. Your child must be dropped off only at the drop-off area from the northwest corner to the gym doors and must only exit from the right side of the car. Student’s temperatures will be taken upon exiting their car. Once the student has disembarked, proceed toward the lower exit on Dry Ridge Road.
***REMINDER: Parents may not walk their student(s) into the
school building or to their classrooms.***
DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
Bus Riders:
Bus riders are dismissed out the main office (blue awning) or side doors.
Car Riders:
All car riders will be dismissed from the parish center doors. Cars should park
behind the parish center in rows. All students will be dismissed to their cars by grade levels.
Walkers:
All walkers will be dismissed from the doors by the flag pole after the car
riders have left the parking lot.
After Care: Any students going to after care will be dismissed directly to the after care room.
Cafeteria
For the immediate future, PREORDERED BOXED LUNCHES will be served in the cafeteria. We are still using the EZ school apps system that was used last year. If your student(s) had a balance on their lunch account, Kaldi's has rolled it over to the current school year.
Upon logging into the EZ school apps website, you will see a lunch calendar. Click on the month at the top to view a menu of available options. We are still offering a hot meal, entrees and sides. With that being said, the number of options has been decreased until we have a better idea of how many buyers we will have. We will make adjustments and add daily featured items once a buyer pattern is better established.
***We ask that you pre-order for the whole week by 8:00 a.m. every Monday***
(Friday by 8:00 a.m. for this week)
Your child’s meal will be packaged and labeled with their name and what they ordered and placed at their seat.
Students will be eating in the cafeteria and will have assigned seats. Grade levels will be rotating lunches and recesses in order to minimize the number of students in the cafeteria at one time. Tables have been spaced out and following each lunch period, tables and seating will be well sanitized.
Volunteers are limited and have already been selected. There will be two volunteers daily on the floor to help the students. If you have been a volunteer in the past and a sub is needed, Shannon Lemos may reach out to you to see if you would be interested.
ALL Kaldi's staff and any volunteers will have their temperature checked as well as questionnaire to fill out. Masks and gloves will be worn at all times.
A price increase of .25 cents was necessary due to the increased usage of disposable items needed for boxed lunches.
Please feel free to contact Kaldis directly or Shannon Lemos for any further questions. We are looking forward to having a super school year.

Reminders From the Nurse
If your child has an underlying health condition that would lead to symptoms that are the same as COVID-19 (Seasonal allergies, Asthma, GI issues, Headaches, etc), and we don't already have a doctor note on file, please have their physician write a note for their school medical record. If there is no documentation we have to treat it as if it is a COVID-19 symptom.
If you still need to drop off medication for your child, an adult needs to deliver the medication You may give it to one of our office staff members and they will see that I receive it. DO NOT SEND ANY MEDICATION TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD UNLESS THEY HAVE AN ORDER TO SELF CARRY FROM THE PHYSICIAN.

NAVIGATING COVID-19 SYMPTOMS
Communication: One Call System, Blue Jay Flyer, & Social Media
To the greatest extent possible, all communication will be electronic from both the office and from teachers. Blue Jay Folders will no longer be sent home on Wednesdays. We will utilize the One Call e-mail system, the weekly Blue Jay Flyer parent newsletter and social media (Facebook @ St. John the Baptist School Instagram #stjohnthebaptistschool).
Therefore, it is imperative this year that you check e-mail regularly and read the weekly newsletter to obtain important updates and information.

Regardless of income, ALL families must fill out and RETURN the parent letter to school with your child in a sealed envelope with family name on the outside.

At this point the GWAC has not released any guidelines for the upcoming season. However, they have discussed limiting the number of spectators, requiring masks for all spectators and clearing and cleaning the gym and equipment between each game. Rules will be discussed and voted on in September and we will keep everyone posted about the expectations.
If we are unable to have a season money will be refunded for registration costs. However, if the season starts and we are forced to shut down the season early, parents will be refunded a prorated amount. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Thanks,
