Wellness in Our School Community

While I share the concerns over the coronavirus, please know that we are always vigilant for the safety and wellness of our school community. Students will arrive back to school with different information and perspectives on the global news of the corona virus and we want to be sure that our students are exposed to the right amount of information to keep themselves well. We will answer student questions in a developmentally appropriate way and we will answer questions as general as possible and leave more complex answers for families.

We will continue to tell students that they are safe and encourage best practices in handwashing. If you child is experiencing anxiety over illnesses and hand washing, please be sure to reach out to our School Counselor Coori Sellers.

Synergy Students Participate in Enterprise Day!

The Synergy 5th graders recently culminated their Economics unit with Enterprise Day. This was a way for students to apply some of what they learned while studying economics. Students learned about supply and demand, limited resources, natural resources, revenue and profit, and more during the unit. Then, they created a business plan for a product that they wanted to produce and sell. Students had to plan for their time and resources, create their products, and think about packaging, pricing, and selling their products. Then, we invited the Synergy 4th graders and some of the Fleming Staff to come to the Synergy Mall to do some “shopping”. A great time was had by all during this project based learning opportunity!!

Geo Bee Champing Qualifies for the State GeoBee

Congratulations to Fleming 5th Grade Student Cullen Metayer who has qualified to participate in the National Geographic's Vermont Geo Bee on March 27th. The completion will not take place online due to concerns about the Coronavirus. Good Luck to Cullen!

News From Mr. Ryan

Principal Ryan and his wife traveled to Rome Italy last week for February Break. The CDC on Wednesday issued an advisory on health precautions for people who had recently visited four named countries. Unfortunately, they added Italy to this week as one of those countries. This has resulted in the need for Principal Ryan and his wife to be under a social and work contact quarantine for 14 days. If he shows no signs of contracting the Coronavirus during this two week span, he will return to work at Fleming on March 19th. He is presently showing no signs or symptoms and is being monitored closely by the Vermont Department of Health and his primary care provider. He is working from home and is in close daily contact with his highly qualified school principal substitute Amy Mellencamp and Ms. Aldrich

Principal Search

As you may know, Fleming Principal, Dan Ryan will be retiring at the end of the school year. He is the longest serving principal of this school since it was built in 1912. A principal search has begun. Fleming staff have been invited to participate in the search process. More details on the search will be shared with you in the coming weeks.

Box Top Competition Round 2

It's time again for the next round of box top competitions! The class with the most, will earn a sweet reward for their class! Students can bring home papers to fill from school, but lets see how many we can collect!

There's also the option of scanning your receipt to bring money into the school, but unfortunately, there is no way currently to have them select a classroom currently.

All you have to do is download the app, and select Fleming at your home school, and scan your receipt when you're done grocery shopping!

Positions Open at Fleming

We currently are hiring for two positions here at Fleming. One position to fill is for a long term reading/math Interventionist to join the team of Title One interventionist until mid May. The second position is for a Para position. Both jobs are located on schoolspring.com

Volunteers are always welcome!

We are always looking for volunteers at Fleming school for in-school assistance and field trip chaperoning! If you would like to volunteer at Fleming School this year, we ask that you please go to the school website and read about how to volunteer at Fleming School, and complete the online application and background screening. This form needs to be done annually, so if you registered last year, you will need to do it again this year. We would greatly appreciate volunteers to work in our library-media center this year. Please contact our school librarian, Carrie Speranza to learn how you could help her in the library.
