August Family Newsletter
We Can't Wait to See You!
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!
Dear Marthasville Students and Families,
Summer is quickly coming to an end and our fantastic custodial staff have been hard at work cleaning the building and campus. We are all ecstatic to get the new school year rolling! This year our theme is "Let Your Light Shine". Our staff is truly looking forward to not only continuing to grow strong relationships with our students and families, but also creating new memories together while we learn and create.
We appreciate all that our families do to support Marthasville and will continue to work hard to keep our building safe, clean, and our students loved and cared for. If you ever need to reach me, please don't hesitate to email, call, or message me on our Marthasville Facebook page. I am honored and excited to once again lead our mighty school as building Principal.
Our first Day of excellence is August 21, 2023! Doors open at 7:20 a.m. and learning begins at 7:45 a.m. We dismiss at 2:45 p.m. Please read the important information below and let me know if you need anything. I am here to serve!
Enjoy the rest of your summer and we will see you soon!
Most Caring,
Mrs. Kristen Daffron
Principal

Water Bottle Fillers Stations and Drinking FountainsWater bottle fillers will be available for students to fill up their own water bottles. Please send a labeled water bottle with your child each day. We do not have extra water bottles and will not always have extra cups. | CommunicationLinks for the district and school calendar can be found below. A calendar of events will be included in the monthly newsletter as well. Please refer to the main calendar throughout the year for more information. We will again utilize Remind 101 for our building wide communication tool. Teachers will have their own code to join their classroom. Our goal is to have 100% of our families join Remind 101 so they can stay in the loop with happenings and news from the classrooms! Information about joining your child's Remind 101 class will be sent out soon! https://www.washington.k12.mo.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=163522&pageId=914001 | Parent Portal/Lumen Please ensure that your child(ren)'s Parent Portal is UPDATED every year. We need every student's file to have current addresses, phone numbers and emergency contacts, as well as other important items checked for accuracy. If you have any questions or need support, please contact the office. We will be in contact if your child's file is missing any information. Our goal is to have 100% of our student population with updated information. If you have moved or have a child in 4th grade, we will also need NEW proof of residency (mortgage or lease statement), and one utility bill (water, gas, sewer, electric, trash). If you have multiple children in our school, Parent Portal accounts for each child needs to be updated as well. If you have paperwork for Cheryl or Nurse Annie, please return to school by Open House. |

Transportation SurveyI need EVERY family (1 per household) to take the Afternoon Transportation Survey before August 18th so I can plan the safest and smoothest transition for all students at the end of the day. If I don't get a survey from your family, you will hear from me on the 19th, so we can plan accordingly. Click on the following link (it is a quick form to fill out): | Morning RoutineCar Riders- Follow the arrows into the upper parking lot and drop off your students at the main vestibule entrance doors. You will see Mrs. Daffron and Mrs. Busekrus greeting. We ask that you do not exit the parking lot via the bus lane-please follow the arrows through the lower parking lot and exit there. Make sure your child(ren) are ready to exit the vehicle so we can keep the car rider line moving quickly. If you need to help them get out, please park in a spot and walk them over to the steps. We ask that you do not allow students to run across the driving lane. Bus Riders, Walkers, Biker Riders- Students riding the bus will walk to the Gym Lobby doors to enter the building. Please talk through this entrance procedure with your child prior to the first day of school. Students will not be able to enter the building before 7:20 a.m. and we ask that they not arrive any sooner than 7:15, as there is no supervision outside prior to 7:20. We appreciate your cooperation and support! | Afternoon DismissalPlease follow the arrows when entering and exiting the parking lots during student dismissal. It is not safe for vehicles to use the bus lane while students are loading and unloading. Please do not use the bus lanes when exiting the lot. Students will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m. We will release Car Riders to the Gym first. Bus Riders and Walker/Bike Riders will be announced shorty after. If you are picking up students after school, the line will start at the gym door labeled A3. You will be asked for student name(s). We will send out your student(s) through the door labeled A2. Please watch for children as you are leaving the parking lot. Students must be picked up no later than 3:00 p.m. If your child will be going home a different than their normal routine, please let the OFFICE know by 2:00. We understand emergenics happen, however, so we appreciate the communication as soon as you know there will be a change. Also, please do not allow your child to communicate with you via cellphone. There have been many times we have caught students using their cellphones to call home. This goes against district policy for cellphone use during the school day. Bus Riders- K and 1st students will NOT be let off the bus unless someone is there to get them. This is a bus garage policy. |

Technology The Technology Department will be reinstating fees for damaged or lost chargers and devices. SDOW highly recommends each Blue Jay have insurance. | Visitors and Volunteers We are once again using the Raptor system for anyone entering our building to volunteer or visit. Anyone picking up or dropping off students only, do no need to be approved through Raptor, as they won't be entering the building past the safety vestibule doors. We also ask that visitors and volunteers only enter the building through the Main Entrance doors (top of the front parking lot). | Class Parties and Parent Teacher Conferences Dates for Halloween and Christmas class parties will be sent out later. Most teachers have a sign up sheet during Open House for party helpers. Information for Parent Teacher Conferences will be shared on October's Family Newsletter. Many teachers also put out a sign up sheet during Open House for conferences. Fall conferences are mandatory for all students. |
