WELCOME FROM DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, ROBERT FOREMAN
Mustang Staff,
Spring sports seasons are in full swing. Our student-athletes have not had the opportunity to compete since their seasons were abruptly ended on March 12, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are extremely excited to see these young men and women return to the sports they love and represent Mustang Public Schools in competition. We have some amazing spring sports athletes and we ask that you make plans to attend a tennis match, soccer match, baseball game, slow-pitch softball game, golf tournament, or track meet and cheer them on. The spring sports season is fast and furious with an event scheduled almost every day of the week. Your employee ID badge will grant you and a guest admission to these events.
See you soon! Go Broncos!!

BASEBALL PREVIEW
The team has been working hard, lifting and practicing for nearly 2 years now. With competition being the biggest factor they are missing, the early scrimmages will be important for the players and coaches to find their grove. Coach Patterson had this to say about the upcoming season, "We have a lot of seniors but realistically they are young since they did not have a season last year. We will see growth throughout the year and by mid april I expect to be competing with anyone."
Seniors that have already committed to play baseball next year in college:

BOYS AND GIRLS GOLF PREVIEW
We have 2 returning State Qualifiers this year from 2 years ago. Jr. Cole Luber and Sr. Macy Walker. These 2 leaders are making a difference in their teammates by encouraging and pushing them to be State Qualifiers along with them.
This years boys and girls teams are very hungry for competition due to the fact that last season was cancelled. Cole Luber and Jack Keeter will lead the boys this year. Coach Meledeo said this, "I know those 2 can compete with the best of them. Can't wait to see them is action. Macy Walker, Greenlee Lindsey and CJ Bowers will lead the girls this season. All 3 have confidence and experience to help this team qualify for State. My goals for both teams are for the leaders to use their potential, lift up the younger golfers and get these teams to the State Tournament. Looking forward to a very successful season from our Boys and Girls teams."
This year I will have Justin Lindsey as my Boys Assistant coach and Jamie Crockett as my Assistant Girls coach. They are very much appreciated.

2021 SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL TEAM
SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL PREVIEW
Our girls softball team did a lot of virtual training as a team via Zoom in the early parts of the quarantine in the spring. As a new staff, they felt it was important to begin working with the girls as soon as possible, even if it was virtually. Once they were able to meet with them in person, the girls began Crossfit workouts that lasted throughout the summer. Crossfit was great for the girls because not only did it get them physically in shape, but it also taught them mental toughness and how to work through adversity.
The softball team made it to the State Tournament in fastpitch during the fall after a two year absence. This was huge for our softball program and getting things back to where our coaching staff believes they should be. Coach Darity said this, "It is our expectation to make the state tournament every season, and I believe making it in fastpitch helps set the tone for slowpitch season. We have a desire to be great at both."
There is a lot of veteran leadership with the seniors and some of the older players. These are kids who have competed in fastptich & slowpitch for 3 seasons now, and the coaches feel like they have a desire to get this team to its first slowpitch state tournament. They do a great job of helping out the younger players since there are so many freshmen & sophomores on our team.
"I think we should have a successful season and have a shot to make the state tournament. We have quite a few players who have slowpitch experience, mixed with some talented underclassmen who are playing their first season. It is always our goal to compete for a state championship, and our goal is to make the state tournament, says Coach Darity."

BOYS SOCCER PREVIEW
After having their season cancelled abruptly due to covid-19, the boys’ soccer team found a way to keep a few things going. Most notably was the teacher appreciation night they began in 2019. Each player picks a teacher to honor at their teacher appreciation game, writes a note and give them a shirt to show their appreciation. With the season being cancelled in 2020, each player sent a video thanking the teacher that made the biggest impact on them. It’s turned out awesome and the teachers really appreciated it. Check out the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEmMgfcCvzM
Since the team got to return to practices, there have been no major disruption due to covid-19. Coach Homer says “I consider that a win!” This won’t be the last win the boys soccer program has this season either. Expectations are once again high for this program. This group of seniors have seen tremendous success on and off the field. They have played in big games and know what it takes to be successful. They love to play the game and most of them have been together for many years. That "togetherness" is something that will help pull the team through adversity throughout the season.
When asked about the season, players, and expectations, here is what Coach Homer had to say, “We return a good chunk of our guys from last year. 8 guys that at least started a game last season. We also return both goalkeepers from last season. We will be a predominantly an older team this year. We will start 1 sophomore, but everyone else will be either a junior or senior. We will lean on the older guys to get us where we want to go. We are really excited about this group. If we can stay healthy, they have a chance at competing for a state championship. A lot of these guys' seasons were cut short last year. They are hungry to go out and prove themselves among the best in the state.”
This is Coach Homer’s 10th year as the head coach of the Mustang Bronco Soccer Program. Homer’s head coach was George Schroeder (2003-2006). Schroeder’s son Case was 4 when Homer played and is now a senior and a member of the program. “I have had the pleasure of coaching Case the past 3 years and watching him grow and mature into a great player and even better person.”

GIRLS SOCCER PREVIEW
During Quarantine the Lady Bronco Soccer team had team challenges with other sports. They challenged wrestlers in running miles and the boys soccer team in a juggling contest! It was something fun and kept athletes motivated and engaged. The coaching staff used preseason to refocus the team goals and to ensure they did everything in their powers for the girls to have a season this year.
This senior class has seen this program be successful the past couple of years. They feel it is their time to step up and have a different outcome in the end.
Coach Riggs said, "I have 5 returning starters, but have a lot of experience over all on the field. There is a different feel and outlook to this season then what is typically looked at. We want to be successful, but we look at each individual game with a specific goal and outcome we want to achieve. For the younger players, we want them to develop into the role of confident impactful players. We have a very positive and determined look for the season. We have the expectation of making it far into the post season playoffs. "

BOYS AND GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD PREVIEW
Our girls track team has several seniors this year who are fantastic leaders. They demonstrate each and every practice what hard work and determination looks like. There are definitely some seniors that are not only looking to return to the State Meet but will be shooting for spots on the podium!
Coach Osborne had this to say about the season, "I can't wait to see how things play out this season. We have several experienced returners as well as new younger athletes who are excited and ready to learn and grow. We are so excited to get into this season and are just ready to get started!"
In the off season the boys distance team picked up a State championship in Cross Country. Since then, the boys track team has done everything they can during the cold weather to stay in shape. Running on treadmills and riding indoor bikes are just a couple of ways they are dealing with the weather. When asked about the team and this season, Mike McGarry had this to say, "There is a willingness to lead by example. We have a great group of leaders that really want to put Mustang Track on the Map. It's hard to know as we haven't competed yet but on the boys side we have a strong distance team and we feel the other events have seen this and want to try to make the podium at state too. The Girls have a few returners like Trinity Picklo and Natalie Hill who will try to encourage the rest to excel. We are excited to see what happens to both teams this year."
