Advanced Quantitative Reasoning Carnival
September 28, 2016
Mrs. deWet's AQR class hosted a series of carnival games on the MHS patio. Their objective was to create a game that had a 30% chance of being won. Each team developed a unique game and used geometry to calculate the theoretical probability. The students conducted several trials of their games and controlled the variables to calculate the empirical probability. Once they obtained 30% probability, they invited others to play their games. To keep their calculations as accurate as possible, they requested at least 100 participants. This gave them their experimental probability. Students were then required to compare and contrast the three probabilities and comment on why they were the same or dramatically different.
