2021-2022 Class Lists
As we approach the end of the school year, we will soon begin the lengthy and complicated process of compiling class lists for the 2021-2022 school year. Should your child have specific needs, the staff welcomes any insight you wish to share to help us in this process. My hope is that you will trust in our ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff members familiar with your child in the process of placing students into classes that best meet their needs. Additionally, I know that parent input can provide us with valuable information to assist in the placement process.
Please complete this form if your child is a current Kindergarten through fourth grade student. We will not accept teacher requests.
This form must be completed by March 26th for your input to be considered. Forms received after this date will not be considered as groupings for 2021-2022 will have already begun.
Kindergarten Preview '21
2021 Kindergarten Preview will be posted in next week's newsletter! We want to be sure that we have every student’s name in order for materials to be sent prior to that date. If you have a child who will be five (5) years old ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 or if you have a neighbor with a child who will be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2021, please call the Elmwood School Office 630-420-6341. Also, if you have a child attending another Kindergarten program who will be starting First Grade at Elmwood in Fall 2021, please notify us as soon as possible. This information is vital for our planning.

Mutual Ground Training
Our district is continuing to partner with Mutual Ground, Inc. to provide Sexual Abuse Prevention Education programming to our students. Mutual Ground is a social service agency located in Aurora, Illinois, and has been presenting these programs to local school districts for many years.
Legislation in our state called Erin’s Law now requires all public schools in Illinois to develop a comprehensive plan for sexual abuse awareness and prevention education. As a part of our plan to meet the state requirements, Mutual Ground’s Prevention Education Department will be presenting a Personal Body Safety Program in all grade level classrooms (K-5th). This year, all presentations will be held in a virtual setting (zoom) if they are attending school online or in person. Kindergarten classrooms will have one 15 minute virtual presentation, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade classrooms will have one 30 minute virtual presentation and 1st and 4th grade classrooms will have two 30 minute virtual presentations. This program will discuss sexual abuse prevention at an age appropriate level for our students as outlined below.
Personal Body Safety Program will cover topics such as:
Learning/reviewing the safety rule “No one should touch your private parts except to keep you healthy” and the Safety Plan: “Yell No, Get Away, Tell An Adult”
Discussing the difference between Safe vs. Unsafe Secrets and Situations
Empowering students to trust their instincts and tell an adult when unsafe situations arise
Mutual Ground has provided parent information via video (https://www.mutualgroundlearning.com/videoresourcespage). The video is available in English and in Spanish. This video is an opportunity to hear about the presentation your child will be receiving, an opportunity to learn about Erin’s Law, and what we can do as a parent and community to help prevent sexual abuse. We highly recommend reviewing this information for all parents. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Rhonda Annala, Mutual Ground’s Prevention Education Coordinator, at (630) 897-0084 X107.
For more information about Elmwood's Mutual Ground training, please click here. Special note, you only need to sign and return the letter if you are OPTING OUT of the training.

The voter guide was shared beginning February 24th ahead of early voting, which begins on February 25th. The voter guide was intentionally shared as a Google document to allow updates in case additional responses are received.

5Essentials Survey
As a parent or guardian of one or more students attending Naperville Community Unit School District 203, your feedback is requested via participation in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey.
The purpose of this online survey is to understand parent/guardian perceptions in the areas of connectedness, satisfaction, interaction, involvement, and quality. Your participation and ratings on this survey are confidential; the district will only receive school level results if at least 20% of parents/guardians participate. The results of this survey will be used to understand areas of strength and challenge at the district and school level based on your input and feedback.
Families with students attending more than one school are asked to complete the survey for each school individually. To access the survey, please click here http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/ and select “Dupage” as the County. Lastly, please complete this survey by Friday April 2, 2021 and thank you for your participation.

Attention 5th grade parents!
Attention 5th grade parents!
The 5th grade celebrations committee has been working hard behind the scenes to try and make sure the kids' milestone graduation from elementary school is memorable and special. Even though there was a bumpy start of this year, we can hopefully celebrate the finish of their Elmwood career in a festive way. We will need parents' help with making these things happen!
Each year, there is a video that we show on the last day of school that shows highlights of students' time at Elmwood.
For all parents: We would like for you to submit some candid photos you have taken through the years to include in the video. Please email photos to Elmwood5thgrade2021@gmail.com that you would like us to try and put in the video. Fun Run, Field Day, Halloween parades, Valentine parties, and anything in between. Final day to submit photos is May 1, 2021.
In the video, we feature a side-by-side photo of each student from when they began kindergarten and of their 5th grade school photo. **If your child did not attend Elmwood for kindergarten, please send an email to Elmwood5thgrade2021@gmail.com with a comparable photo from kindergarten of your child, along with their name. If your child attended Elmwood for kindergarten and had a photo in the yearbook previously, we will have yours already, so no need to send one. Last day to submit a kindergarten photo is May 1, 2021.
Soon there will be information coming about yearbook dedications, yard sign purchase information, volunteer opportunities, and more, so please be on the lookout for future info. Thanks in advance for your help!
