Computer Update
As you all know the PCs and Laptops throughout the school have been updated throughout the school. The systems need to be rebooted for the updates to be applied! So I would recommend that the PCs you use are rebooted i.e. Turned Off/On prior to use.

WATCH FOR SPEED BUMPS
Things rarely go according to plan. Nearly everything you do is vulnerable to interruptions, unforeseeable changes or problems that can disrupt time frames, budgets or resources.
However, these ‘speed bumps’ can actually assist in getting through your day more efficiently and effectively if they are embraced the right way.
I am an optimistic person by nature but at times a series of events on a particular day can seem to be too well punctuated with disasters. At one point I asked myself if “anything else could go wrong?”
Well, you know what they say… “Be careful what you wish for!”, sure enough more things went wrong.
I began to wonder if there was someone out there secretly testing if I could apply the resilience techniques that I frequently teach others?
Every day opportunities present themselves to us wrapped in packages that most of us call problems. They may present as an argument, an angry parent, a late meeting, a high maintenance colleague, an unrealistic deadline etc.
Your point of view is a powerful tool that can determine how smoothly you handle the changes, uncertainty and other ‘speed bumps’ in your day.
Here are three tips to help you ride the speed bumps in your world:
Look for them
A great viewpoint to adopt can be that ‘everything in life is a lesson or a gift’. Problems will happen. That is guaranteed. Your job is to look for the potential and possibility in them.
Act on it
Information without action is useless. Take your insights and put them into immediate action. Ask yourself three questions:
How can I apply this?
Where can I apply this?
With whom can I apply this?
Dig into it
Look beyond the obvious in the problem and see if there is something to learn about yourself. The situation may provide the platform to learn a little more about patience, integrity, courage, or gratitude.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Sir Winston Churchill once said that “Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened”.
Slow down over your speed bumps.
Key points
Speed bumps are inevitable
Your point of view determines how smoothly you handle the changes that inevitably occur
Expect speed bumps - they are a fact of life
Act on them and try to see them as learning opportunities

REPORTS
FILLING OUR MINDS
Across a normal school week we experience many impacts regarding the support of our student’s ‘well being’. Much of the detail of these individual engagements and conversations go generally unnoticed by staff across the school (except for those individually supporting these children) as you all engage the important work of teaching and learning you successfully engage in our classroom timetables … some of us also directly engage the playground impacts and some also staff have direct communication with families regarding how their child is engaging or resolving an issue of learning …. Happy ? …. Focused ? ... Feeling valued ?….
In many conversations with students who need that individual support we are often informed of what they are thinking… what they are interpreting in how their peers and teachers react with them …what they are engaging on social media …. what movies ( NOW THAT IS AN INTERESTING ONE!), what games .. (ANOTHER INTERESTING ONE), social media they are using… how is that working for them ?? … WHAT are they are filling their minds with!!!??
When we discuss and guide them to consider how our brains are like a big sponge that we allow it (CHOOSE) to ‘soak up’ information, images, communication, thoughts, social engagement ….. and then depending how full it is (individual) enables us to make choices, judgements ….
Fill Your mind with reading?
This reflection had me also thinking about how we as adults and professional teachers consider and expand our thoughts and experiences ? I was recently asked as part of a professional learning group to share what am I filling my brain with? For my era that means for me what am I reading ? … .. what did I share ?
- What am I reading?
- Chasing the Scream – very interesting view on drugs, society, impacts and creative solutions.
- Free Schools – David Gillespie … reading it for the 3rd time ….. great read re Gov’t Schools and Private…. Sharing it with other professionals I work with or will work with.
- My Fight Your Fight Ronda Rousey –UFC Fight Champion till this week…. Yes I can hear the sigh .. Why did I read it ? … Josh - son who has faced and successfully recovered from a potential critical illness and challenge said – read this re life and mental toughness … YEP I can relate with him and his challenge and after working in what some would say are challenging circumstance .... I would reframe and say it was an amazing experience and opportunity … all our family met, engaged and still remain the strongest of friends with a whole range of people across a wide range of society ..... we can learn something from everyone we meet ….. stay connected, focused, real…
- MALCOLM GLADWELL … LOVE to read books by Malcom Gladwell! I collect them and pass them on to friends and family…. How long till he writes another book – hurry up!
- BOUNCE – got to read…..
FOR EACH OF US WE ALL HAVE OUR INDIVIDUAL CHOICES AS TO WHAT WE ENGAGE AND FILL OUR MIND WITH … ENJOY FILLING YOURS!
"Mind your thoughts ..
They become your words ...
Mind Your words ...
They become your actions ...
Mind your actions ...
They become your reputation... destiny"
Fill your mind with visions ..... TV …. Did you watch on Sunday Night (yes called Sunday Night - Melissa Doyle presenting) ..... Slum town symphony…. ?
Quotes included.... “Always connected to the community …” “It’s what you do with what you have…”
Enjoy your week and likely ... an inevitable 'speed bump'. Reframe it and use it ..
Kind Regards
