A Message From Mrs. Burko

Good Evening Cougar Families-

It's hard to believe we've reached the end of April already. As we head into May please remember that EOG testing will begin for students on Wednesday, May 19th. There will be more information to follow.

Join me on April 28th for a conversation to discuss hybrid learning and closing out the school year. See the images below for more information.

The next School Improvement Team meeting is Thursday, May 6th.

Teacher appreciation week is coming quickly. It begins May 3rd and ends May 7th. Culbreth's teachers are the best and have worked hard to support students day in and day out during this unprecedented school year. Help us celebrate our Culbreth staff by sharing your appreciation using THIS form. We will share your notes of appreciation with staff throughout the month of May.

Please reach out if there is anything I can do to better serve you.

Yours in Service,

Mrs. April Burko

Middle School Athletics Update

As the middle of April is upon us with seven weeks of school left in a Pandemic, middle school administration, athletic directors, district leads, and teachers continue working hard to ensure all students are safe. Our middle schools continue to operate on Plan B, with a modified schedule, with the option for students to attend school a minimum of two days per week if they choose. As we discussed the benefits and impacts of middle school athletics, one clear and significant indicator that emerged was the inability to implement athletics on our middle school campuses in an equitable and safe manner for both students learning face to face, and those learning remotely.

Therefore, after careful consideration, we have determined that it is not possible to implement traditional middle school athletics for the remainder of the school year, and that virtual athletic opportunities will continue. However, we all agree that we need to provide engaging physical activity for students. As a result, we are brainstorming ways to enhance physical education classes to provide social learning opportunities and skill building in order to prepare students for sports when they return in the fall for full time learning.

We look forward to being able to implement on-campus Fall sports following appropriate safety guidelines and protocols for our middle school students. Thank you so much for your advocacy and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our district athletic director, Scarlett Steinert
