The Meeks Messenger
1st Edition, Vol. 14, November 2018
From the desk of Lauren Meeks...
Next week we will celebrate Inclusive Schools week, and the theme is "Kaleidoscope of Friends". In a Kaleidoscope, many different shapes, colors, and textures come together to make beautiful art. Inclusion means everyone at our school is important. We can be glad we all think, act, and look different from each other and we can use our differences for better understanding. Each day of the week, our students will get to wear or do something inclusive.
Monday: Unity Day - Wear your school spirit shirt! Remember to bring your "Favorites" Picture (a picture of your student doing something they love, details below). Also, grades 3-5 will have a Mix-It-Up Lunch, where students will sit with new groups and connect with some new friends.
Tuesday: Crazy Socks Day - Celebrate your uniqueness with bright and crazy socks! Remember to bring your "Favorites" Picture (details below) if you didn't bring it Monday.
Wednesday: Cozy Up Day - wear cozy clothes like sweats or PJs and get cozy with new friends and new inclusion-friendly books!
Thursday: Thoughtful Thursday - Think Positive! Students will receive pencils with positive messages, then write encouraging messages or draw pictures to give to another student.
Friday: Find Your Favorites - Wear something showing what you love to do and then check out the Kaleidoscope display in the cafeteria to find your "Favorites" picture and see other students' favorites, too.
"Favorites" Picture: Students will be bringing in pictures of themselves doing things they love. If you receive pictures, please make sure the student's name, grade, and teacher are on the back of the picture and send it to the office in your sleeve. We will make sure the pictures get to Danele!

- We will be beginning the 15 days of kindness on Monday! Students will be on the announcements each morning sharing a small thing everyday that we hope that others will do as well. An example would be to smile at someone or to ask someone new to play at recess.

Yearbook!
Teachers:
We need your help! Once again, we are asking each of you to use the Balfour Image Share photo app to upload photos from your class to be used in the yearbook. When uploading photos, you can fill in what is happening in the photo so we know where to use it in the yearbook. Please upload 10 photos before the winter break from any activity or event or of work in the classroom. We will need an additional 10 photos uploaded by mid-February. These can be class group photos, small groups or action shots of your students working and playing. The Upload Code for this year is 927902. Detailed instructions for using the app are on the attached flyer.

Here is the place to do that - fill out this form and they will be recognized by admin at the first faculty meeting of the month. You can do this anonymously, or you may add your name!
