Celebrating Student Success!
Our Fine Arts Department had an awesome school year achieving honors in our annual UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contests. I attended every one of their contests and was amazed to see the growth in their skills and abilities to sing and perform such beautiful music.
Our choirs traveled to Canyon Lake High School to compete just prior to Spring Break. Upon our return from the break, our orchestras traveled to San Marcos High School to compete, while our band only had to travel a short distance to Roosevelt High School to compete in their contest.
The following groups achieved the highest honors in these competitions:
Boys' Tenor Choir
Won Sweepstakes Award!
Girls' Varsity Choir
Won Sweepstakes!
Varsity Orchestra
Won Sweepstakes!
Varsity Band
Won Sweepstakes! The last time our band won a sweepstakes award was 17 years ago in 2002. We were holding back tears of joy when we learned that our students had achieved this honor. Our students and our band program have come a long way from where they have been for quite some time now. I witnessed such passion, such excitement and such confidence in these students at their contest this year, compared to last year. They have worked so hard and have risen to the high standard that our directors have pushed them to achieve. I am so proud and happy of every one of them!
Theater Arts
Our One-Act-Play won first place in district this year!
To Our Directors!
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I want to congratulate our fine arts department for an awesome school year. Our student musicians and actors could not have achieved this level of success without the excellent teaching and conducting by our wonderful teachers. I sincerely thank the following teachers: Kimberly Mendez, director of choir; Phyllis Malone, director of orchestra; Kimberly Young and Derek Cabbrera, directors of band; and Tammy Frazier, director of theater arts.
Way to Go Yearlings! Congratulations!
Thank You Parents!
Thanks to all of our parents who chaperoned our students during these contests, and to all of you who attended the concerts and sight reading events. Without your support our students, school and community would not be successful! Your attendance at these contests was fantastic.
A sincere thank you to everyone who attended. Go Yearlings!
