What you really need to know
Please send gloves/mittens to school every day. When snow is on the ground, please also send snow pants and boots.
Please check folders for new sight word cards and homework assignments every two weeks. Next homework is due on Friday, February 5. Word rings should stay at home for daily practice.
If your child plans to give valentines to classmates, please look in your child's folder this week for a class list so all friends can be included. We will decorate mailbags and distribute valentines in school on Thursday, February 11. Cards may be homemade or store bought. If your child plans to participate, please send completed valentines for all classmates to school on or before 2/11.
Happy 6th birthday to Koharu!

What we've been up to.
- We learned three different math games to play with our math partners: Tic Tac Teen, Double Ten Frame War, and trading chips for tens (otherwise known as regrouping and laying the groundwork for learning place value).
- We saw an amazing assembly starring Chinese acrobat Li Liu. Ask your child how she rides her bicycle.
- Our question of the day this week focused on counting ten + some more to solve addition problems with teen sums.
- We are learning to read and spell with digraphs: SH, CH and TH.
- We made some awesome displays for our classroom and hall. Our artwork this week, inspired by Dr. King, includes our dreams to help make the world a better place.
- For Writer's Workshop, we read The OK Book, and began writing All About Me books! stay tuned for updates on our book making progress.

The things kids say. For real.
Mrs. Cohen: Raise your hand to tell a word that begins with SH.
(Seriously. Did I really just say that?)
Student 1: Shark.
Student 2: Shake
Student 3: Shirt.
Mrs. Cohen: What?
Student 3: Shirt.
Mrs. Cohen: That's what I thought. Just checking.
