Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab

The PA Farm Bureau's Mobile Ag Ed Science Lab will be returning to JES for the 3rd year in a row, thanks to the JES PTA! The Ag Ed Science Lab offers hands on agriculture experiments. Students in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to visit the lab with their class. See the PTA section of this E-blast if you are interested in volunteering for the ag ed lab.

Please save the date for an exciting event to explore new opportunities for our elementary libraries on the evening of Thursday, October 20 at the high school. We will learn about the latest trends in 21st Century libraries and the impact they will have on our libraries in the coming year. We are fortunate to have internationally recognized library visionary Keith Webster, Dean of Libraries at Carnegie Mellon University, and an expert in building libraries of the future as our keynote speaker. Maker activities and childcare will be available for children during the event. We hope you can join us for this special evening to learn more. More information to come. PTA Updates
It is time to join the PTA for the 2016-2017 school year!
Joining the PTA helps to fund and support school-wide activities and assemblies. Joining does not require volunteering, but we do have a lot of fun volunteer activities throughout the year. Only PTA members receive the Declaration e-newsletter and the Directory, which has class rosters and PTA member contact information. If you would like to join the PTA and be listed in the Jefferson Elementary School PTA Directory, please complete the online form, and submit payment as soon as possible.
PTA Meeting – Join Us!
The first PTA Meeting of the year will take place on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Jefferson Elementary School Library.
Volunteer Opportunities and Clearances
There are many fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities available throughout the school year. Screenagers Parent Education Event
Learn how kids’ tech time impacts family life and how to balance life in a digital world.
Mt. Lebanon Council PTA invites you to a community wide Parent Education event, a free screening of the nationally acclaimed educational film "Screenagers". Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind is an opportunity for your child to:
Practice creative problem-solving and critical thinking
Design and implement real world solutions with a team of peers
Build life skills such as self-esteem, confidence and planning
Learn to speak and perform in front of an audience
Have fun!
As a team coach, you will:
Help motivate, support and organize a team (no teaching or special knowledge is required)
Experience what happens when students take control of their own learning
Be rewarded by spending quality time with kids as they develop ideas and accomplish goals

YMCA Princess and Guides Program!
Have fun and grow with your son or daughter through the YMCA Princess and Guides Programs! The YMCA Princess and Guides programs are designed to foster companionship between fathers and their daughter or son.
The programs:
- Are open to all South Hills families
- Have been offering fun and adventure for over 30 years
- Group new members into tribes, based on municipality, school, or neighborhood
- Include tribe-level events and South Hills-wide level events including:
- 3 camp-outs per year
- ice cream socials
- a semi-formal dinner dance
- picnics
- mini sail boat races
- ice skating
- many other events
While the Program focuses on the father/daughter or father/son relationship, it also fosters great and lasting friendships for both the daughters/sons and fathers within their tribe and across all of the South Hills. These friendships will often last well beyond the term of the program.
