Whakatane High School

We hope you had a relaxing term break and are ready to get stuck into a new Term of learning.
Covid-19
Whakatane High School is in the Orange Traffic Light setting.
WHAT THIS MEANS AT SCHOOL
Gathering limits
There are no longer indoor or outdoor gathering limits, so we will resume assemblies in Term 2.
Facemasks
These are no longer compulsory at school, but are still encouraged indoors. They are, however, still compulsory on school transport. If we see rising rates of Covid in our school we may decide it is appropriate to keep additional health measures in place, and return to wearing a mask indoors. We will advise if this is the case.
Have Covid-19 symptoms?
Stay home if you are unwell and take a RAT test.
WHAT THIS MEANS AT HOME
Live with someone who has tested positive?
You are considered a Household Contact and will need to isolate for 7 days.
Here's a link to the full traffic light system.
Timetable
Week 1 of Term 2 starts with a week A timetable.
Term 2 focus - Attendance
Our Term Two focus is on attendance. Getting your child to school really matters. Please support by encouraging attendance. If you have concerns or need support, please contact your child’s year level Dean, and let us work together.
What’s on this Term
Below is a taste of what's on in Term 2. Please note, there are two Teacher Only Days and two public holidays. Please ensure you keep up to date with the calendar on the portal here.

Sport
Winter Sports is almost upon us. We have great participation again this Term. Please support us through the Sports at Whakatane Facebook page. You will see weekly fixtures and results at this page. If you have any questions please contact the Sport Co-ordinator Renske Forsyth at sport@whs.co.nz or the Director of Sport ben.sexton@whs.co.nz.
This Winter we have 27 teams participating in Winter sports, involving over 450 students learning, participating, achieving and having fun through sport!
School meals
We have been working hard with Bay Catering and the Student Council to improve the quality of our meals. We are really looking forward to our Term 2 menu!
The Term 2 menu is here.
Have a great term!
