Lions Library
a collection of ideas, media center news, and fun facts
Welcome back!
One thing I love about "back to school" is the renewed energy that everyone comes back with after having a little time off. Your classrooms are looking great and everything will fall into place by the first day of school. I have wanted to get back into the habit of producing a monthly newsletter. This year, I'm committed to doing so! (The power of goal setting!) Many times during the year, I come across information or ideas that I think would be useful to you but I know that the emails get lost in the jumble of daily mail. Hopefully this format will allow me to share several things at once and then you can save these newsletters as a reference for a later time.
Here's an idea...
Create a folder in your inbox to save the "Lions Library" newsletters each month. You will be able to find them easily without searching through all of your emails.
Did you know....
You can have access to the library catalog on your own computer? Even better... you can create a list of books that you would like to have checked out. Use the following link and create a shortcut (right click >create desktop shortcut) on your desktop. http://destiny.ccboe.net (It may already be there.)
This is a win/win for both of us! You can quickly see if a book is available without waiting for an email response or a student to return with a note. By creating a list, this helps us make sure you get exactly the books you need for instruction. Once your list is complete, just drop it off in the media center and we will pull the requested books for you. ** Please give us 3 or more days notice. Thanks!
Library tour for newcomers...
This year we are welcoming many new teachers and auxiliary personnel to our school. I will be hosting a short library orientation for new teachers at 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5th. During this time you will get a tour of the media center and a chance to see what tools and resources we have available for you and your students. We can help make your teaching life easier! :-) We will also discuss how to read the schedule and the roles of the Encore classes. I look forward to meeting you! (You only need to attend one orientation.)
Laminating Guidelines
The laminator is a always a "hot" topic at the beginning of the school year. We are so fortunate to have "unlimited" laminating... as long as the laminating guidelines are followed.
- laminating should be for instructional use ONLY of items that are going to be used multiple times. (Do not laminate student artwork, certificates, holiday placemats... etc.
- Items going through the laminator should be no thicker than a single sheet of construction paper. (Anything thicker will peel.)
- What NOT to laminate: Items that contain : staples, glitter, or any raised textures or embellishments, desk dividers/privacy folders , pocket folders , materials that are already laminated or have a slick surface.
- For liability reasons, only school employees may use the laminator. You may do so anytime between 8:15 and 3:45. (This allows for heating up /cool down times.) Keep in mind that the laminator will enter "sleep mode" and cool down when not used for a 45 minute period of time. It will need approximately 15 minutes to reheat.
Fine Print....
Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter or at least scroll down to the bottom! The first 3 people to email me with a comment or suggestion about the newsletter will win a prize!!
