IMPORTANT Housekeeping Notes
Parents, please will you read through the following and make a note. In order to keep our students safe, to maximize instruction without interruption and to adhere to the FCS nutrition regulations we ask that you follow these procedures.
- All car riders must use the carpool lane. Cars will no longer be permitted to park in the Hembree Springs Lot. Car riders will be required to stay in the carpool area until they are picked up. Please Note: Four (4) lift-busses have been relocated to alleviate the carpool lanes.
- All students checking out must have and present a signed note to the front office. Please send your child with a signed note if they are being checkout early.
- Check-Out your child prior to 3:30 PM. It is policy at Elkins Pointe Middle Schoool that check not occur after 3:30 PM unless it is a medical emergency.
- The front office will no longer "Call into the Classroom" for early check-out. Calling into the classroom interrupts instruction. Please have your child meet you at a prearranged time in the front office. Please arrange with your child to meet you in between classes. Your child's signed note will act as his or her hall pass.
- Food from "Fast-Food Restaurants" is Not Permitted. Students will no longer be allowed to bring food from outside restaurants such as Chick-fil-A, Subway, McDonald's into the cafeteria.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As a part of our Red Ribbon Week activities this year, we are kicking it up a notch and have invited Mr. Jerome Huff to be our keynote speaker on Monday, October 30th.
The Elkins Pointe PTSA has partnered with the school to split Mr. Huff’s speaking fee 50/50. Because of PTSA support, we will be able to have Mr. Huff for the entire day to address each grade level, teachers/staff, and parents. PTSA is still $8,000 away from reaching their financial goal. Please consider donating or becoming a business partner to support speakers like Mr. Huff.
Our children are facing so many pressures these days, e.g. social media, anxiety, stress, peer pressure, the pressure to excel, etc. It is exactly these types of pressures which make our kids susceptible to making bad choices, such as alcohol and drugs. Red Ribbon Week is all about highlighting the key to staying Drug-Free. Mr. Huff is going to speak about the issues our kids must navigate. He will provide tools and resources for our kids to be healthy, happy, and successful. I can’t think of anyone else I would want to speak to our kids besides Mr. Huff.
Mr. Jerome Huff, Guest Speaker's Schedule on Monday, October 30th:
Parent Workshop Session:
- “Real Talk, Real Love” Parents Session with Mr. Huff @ 7:45-8:30 am in the Media Center – All parents and staff are invited to attend!
Students by Grade Level:
- Mr. Huff speaks to 7th grade from 10:20 am to 11:00 am in the Gym
- Mr. Huff speaks to 8th grade from 12:30 am to 1:10 pm in the Gym
- Mr. Huff speaks to 6th grade from 2:25 pm to 3:10 pm in the Gym
Our teachers have been asked to “Please go light on the homework” on October 30th. It is our desire for students to be free to engage in discussions with their parents, teachers, and each other. Ms. Dease, EPMS Guidance Counselor, is working to construct a discussion guide for parents to use with their child. The guide will coincide with Mr. Huff's topics and contain suggested questions and talking points to be used at home. Parents, we will be tasking you with "homework" on October 30th. We ask that you and your child sit down and have a conversation using the prompts prepared by our counselor. We promise not to make the questions so heavy that you are intimidated, but to direct them towards discussions about making good choices, life decisions and ways to address goal-setting.
Be on the lookout for more information on Mr. Huff and Red Ribbon Week!
Sincerely,
Kindra L. Smith, Ed.S
Principal
