Principal's Update
Mid-Quarter Check In (1st Nine Week Period)
Northwestern Families,
Our year is off to a fast start! We have reached our mid-point of the first nine weeks of school. I want to offer a sincere thank you to our parents and families who have supported us through the shifts in learning we have made this year. Our teachers and staff have committed to being consistent and communicating fervently throughout this unique time in education, and that has paid dividends from what we are seeing our students accomplish. Although we are continually making adjustments, we know that our key to success is remaining positive and supporting one another daily. As we continue to move through this first nine-week period, please let us know by email or phone call if your student needs additional support. I encourage parents to check for progress reports on CANVAS, and if you need assistance to access this information, make sure to reach out to us. As always, continue to stay safe and connected.
Sincerely,
Hezekiah Massey, III
Principal

PSAT - October 14th (Remote Learning Day for all non-testers)
On October 14, 2020, approximately 400 Northwestern students will be taking the PSAT on the NHS campus. In order to maintain social distancing and meet the College Board’s standards for test security, we need all faculty for test administration. Therefore, all Northwestern instruction, including Virtual Academy instruction by NHS teachers, will be remote on October 14.
Who is taking the PSAT?
The largest group taking the PSAT is composed of 2nd year high school students. All 2nd year high school students are taking the PSAT unless a parent or guardian opted them out of this test. On September 30, these testers received an announcement and message in Canvas giving test day details. Be sure to ask your student to share these details with you. Mrs. Mixon is in charge of the 2nd year students’ PSAT testing. A smaller group of 3rd year high school students have chosen to take the test for National Merit Scholarship consideration. These students’ test arrangements are handled by Mrs. Cabaniss, one of our school counselors.
What am I to do on October 14 if I am not taking the PSAT?
If you are not taking the PSAT, please do not come to campus. Instead, October 14 will be a remote learning day for all of your Northwestern classes. Do your lessons and assignments that your teachers prepare and place in Canvas. Additionally, be sure to do the attendance question for each block so that you will be marked present.
What is my course work responsibility if I am taking the PSAT?
Because the test will stretch into third block, if you are here and take the PSAT on October 14, your attendance for blocks 1, 2, and 3 will be marked as present. However, you are still responsible for the lessons and assignments that your teachers prepare and place in Canvas. Additionally, be sure to do the attendance question for your 4th block class so that you will be marked present for it.
