Principal's Perspective
It has been an absolute pleasure celebrating with students this week as they've been meeting goals, finding success with new skills like multiplication and division, and learning from the Joseph Maley Foundation's disABILITY awareness program. I have been blown away by the students' empathy and understanding and the depth of the questions they've been asking. Thank you for sharing your wonderful kids with us!
As we prepare for December classroom events, please make sure your background check is current with us. If you aren't sure, you can call the front office to double check or open your Safe Visitor app to see the expiration date listed. We look forward to seeing many of you visiting and volunteering over the next couple weeks!
Also, we've had some questions about a la carte snacks in the cafeteria. If you do not wish your child to purchase these snacks (additional fee beyond the school lunch price), you may add restrictions in their online lunch account where you add payments for their school lunches.
Bundle up and enjoy your weekend!

Note from Nurse Jeannie
Dear Parents,
We are entering the time of year when we are seeing an increase in Influenza (Flu) other respiratory viruses and many cases of Strep Throat at Maple Glen. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. It is different from a cold, in that symptoms appear suddenly. Flu symptoms can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, feeling tired and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. Flu can vary from mild to severe and can cause secondary infections like pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus and ear infections.
People with the flu can infect others 1 day before symptoms start and up to 5-7 days after they become ill. If your child is experiencing any symptoms please keep them home and away from others until their symptoms improve and they have remained fever free for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.
Please remember that your child’s symptoms are the biggest clue as to whether you should be keeping them home or sending them to school. If their symptoms are bothersome, causing them not to be able to learn or be productive, call the attendance line and do not send them to school. This will help the spread of germs, sparing others the risk of becoming sick. Our main goal is to keep all of our students and staff healthy at Maple Glen.

Note from the Art Teacher
Greetings Maple Glen Families:
I just wanted to thank everyone who participated in the Square One art fundraiser. We were able to raise over $3,000 dollars to purchase supplies and a new drying rack for our art room. I appreciate all of your support and please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,

Dear families,
We have a special opportunity to support our own Westfield families. Throughout the next two weeks, you may select an item that you wish to purchase to donate to one of our local families in need.
All items should be new, unwrapped, and have the name of the Sign Up Genius Family on it (Snowman Family, Evergreen Family, Joyful Family, etc).
All items are due by Wednesday, December 7th.
You can choose from any list that has items available! Please just be sure to label your unwrapped items with identifying names (Snowman, Evergreen, Joyful, etc). Thank you for helping us make a family’s holiday brighter by donating an item from the Giving Tree!

Please be sure to include a note that states which family your item is for somewhere on the unwrapped item. If you have any questions, please call Nicole Newman at 317-896-4706.

Our shop will be open from Dec.7th- Dec. 9th. Classroom teachers will have a schedule for when their class will shop. Forms have been sent home to collect money and include a shopping list so the helpers know who your student is shopping for. Gifts will be wrapped and labeled so they can stay a surprise until the holidays!
If you'd like to volunteer please check out the sign up genius!
Lunch Visitors at MGES
We are opening up the opportunity for family members to join their child/children for lunch! For student safety and to accommodate our limited cafeteria seating, we are allowing our families to visit once a trimester. To be prepared for our guests and to check the Safe Visitor Registration of incoming visitors (this is required for every visitor) please make sure you register 24 hours in advance.
We allow 5 visitors per grade level lunch. Please use one slot per person signing up. Due to limited space, visitors will be sitting with their child(ren) at their classroom tables. You have the option of bringing in a home packed lunch or purchasing a lunch at school. No fast food will be allowed at this time. Lunch menus can be found here. The price for an adult lunch is $4.70.

Join the WWS Team!
Westfield Washington Schools is committed to meeting the needs of each student. The best way to accomplish our mission and vision is to ensure that every position in the district is filled with a caring individual dedicated to ensuring each student learns and grows. Being part of a dynamic team, working to ensure each student achieves their full potential is inspiring and energizing. Applying and working as an Instructional Assistant (IA) in one of our schools is an excellent career choice for individuals who would like to make a profound difference in the lives of children. All nine schools currently have open IA positions. We offer full-time and part-time positions. Our IA positions allow parents to work during their students' school schedule - thus eliminating the need for child care - while directly contributing to the success of their student’s school. We operate at optimal levels when we are fully staffed with IAs.
If you are interested in joining our team, please contact your building principal or assistant principal or click here to apply. If you have any questions about these opportunities, please contact Stacy McGuire, Assistant Director of Human Resources, at mcguires@wws.k12.in.us.
