Hello, Families!
It was a another wonderful week in second grade!
We had a busy week of learning! On Tuesday, we began our new reading unit (Social Studies: Citizenship). Our essential question for the unit is, "How do responsible citizens participate in the community?" We are seeking possible answers to this question through various learned reading strategies.
This week has been a "buffer week" in math as students have been working on skills to enhance their knowledge of skills from the past test. As you have noticed, there has not been homework (besides the math fact packet) this week. We will begin unit 4 (Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction) on Monday!
The STAR Reading and Math reports for our mid-point check were sent home on Thursday. Please let me know if you have any questions.
As always (and I can't overstate this enough), PLEASE let me know if you have any questions about your child's progress, or about anything school related in general. My hope is you'll always ask if there is anything you're wondering.
Please ask your child:
Math:
- Did you work in a small group with Mrs. Lacrosse this week? What did you learn?
- Tell me about TenMarks.com!
Reading:
- What books are you currently reading?
- Tell me about citizenship. What is a citizen? How can you be a good citizen? Who is a famous citizen from U.S. history? (Ben Franklin) Tell me what made Ben Franklin an upstanding citizen.
- Tell me how you can remember new words in social studies or science texts.
- How does writing a fact, question, and thought assist your comprehension of a text?
Writing:
- Tell me about your opinion writing. Do you believe kids should have one or two recesses a day? What are your two reasons for your belief?
- Tell me about your introduction and conclusion for the opinion writing piece you turned in to Mrs. Lacrosse.
Other:
- Tell me what you learned in phonics about "swooping" text.
- What did you learn about prepositions to help you "swoop" the text?
Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me. Have a lovely weekend!
