Crenshaw Cub Connections
November 1, 2021
Crenshaw Families and Parents,
We have officially completed the first 9 weeks of school. It has certainly been filled with challenges as we continue to navigate COVID, catch up on lost learning from last year, finishing touches on construction projects, and work toward great new things like our Crenshaw Spark Park (more info on that to follow). It has also been filled with success.
We have a full time Science Lab aide that allows for all of our classes to visit the Science lab on a regular basis.
We are partnering with Galveston Bay Foundation to study the ecosystem right in our back yard. We are harvesting our own oysters in the red hall.
We will soon be hosting our first Student Led Conference evening for parents to get a personal guided digital tour of your student's academic journey at Crenshaw.
We have been accepted as a Spark Park Location. This means we will be working this year to help raise funds to build our own Spark Park for not only our Crenshaw students but also the community to enjoy.
We are now a 1:1 device campus - every student has a device for access during the school day.
And that's only the beginning...... We can't wait to share all the other great things going on at Creshaw this year.
Have a great week

GRADE LEVEL NEWS
KINDERGARTEN
Please help your kindergarten student work on letters and sounds at home. This is a critical skill they must master before they can become readers
Please email your KIndergarten teacher with additional questions
FIRST GRADE
Please make sure that students are not bringing toys, including "pop it's" to school. They are a distraction during the school day. We ask that students leave all supplies at school and if brought home please send them back. Stress to your student that they will not be able to do classwork if supplies are at home.
Please email your First Grade Teacher with additional questions
SECOND GRADE
Reading for 15 minutes a day is very important for our students success. Please continue doing so. Also, check your student binder and grades often so you are well informed on their progress.
Please email your Second Grade Teacher with additional questions
A Little help to tie your shoes
THIRD GRADE
Its the beginning of a new nine weeks! We will be diving into cause and effect, this week. Parents sharing any stories or read alouds at home, using your child's library book or even youtube, can talk about how actions in a fiction story are related to one another. Parent reading tip: If a student is struggeling with a word, while sharing reading, just give them the word and allow them to continue so they do not forget what they are reading..and they can enjoy the story without it being stressful. Also, don't forget, Library cards to the public library are available for students to check out books for free. Whenever choosing books at the library, We encourage students to get books that they know most of the words to, for it to be a just right book.
Please email your Third Grade Teacher for additional questions
FOURTH GRADE
Fourth grade students are learning about the writing process. We are also using Xtra math in the classroom. Students may use Xtra math at home. We asked that you help your child study multiplication facts. Also a reminder we are using the agendas to write down what they will be doing for homework. Homework is given Monday-Thursday. We also encourage reading at home. Students use the accelerated reading and MyOn in class, which they read books and earn points. Thank you parents for all your support!
Please email your fourth grade teacher with additional questions
FIFTH GRADE
Students will be starting to check out library books soon. please watch for the library contract to come home. Please read carefully before signing and returning. We have added some steps to help our students become more responsible patrons of the school library.
Please email your Fifth Grade Teacher with any additional questions.
