The inspiration for YouTube was during the 2004 superbowl when Janet Jackson preformed and her breasts were exposed during the performance, and later after the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Jawed Karim, one of the 3 creators of YouTube, couldn't find these events online.

How the Creators Met

Steve Chen, Jawed Karim, and Chad Hurley were all asked by PayPal to come and work. The three employees became fast friends, and together they wanted to build something of their own that would make a difference in the world. This was when they came up with the idea of YouTube.

Where, When, and Why

YouTube was created in Chad Hurley's garage on February 15, 2005. YouTube was originally supposed to be an online dating website, but soon progressed by changing names. The original name was Tune in Hookup, but the name was changed when the purpose of the website changed. Now it's called and is used for broadcasting yourself, which is literally the slogan, or motto. Now, everyone can post cool videos, and plenty of people have made jobs out of it.

Effect on Society

YouTube has changed our world immensely and i'm going to tell you how. It has made more people be able to share their beliefs, opinions, and the things that go on in their everyday life. Now, more people are connected, and so many people rely on YouTube because it's their job, and they make money out of it. PewDiePie, a Swedish gamer, makes $4 million per year just because of his gaming videos! Tyler Oakley, Troye Sivan, Connor Franta, and many more have openly admitted to the world that they're gay, and now are able to be themselves on the internet. Life without YouTube would be boring. So many people have even made hobbies out of broadcasting themselves, and have openly admitted that without YouTube they'd be nothing.
