A Newsletter for Parents of Muenster ISD Students
Weekly Edition: Distance Learning & 2020-2021 Registration
MISD eNewsletter: April 24, 2020
Dear Muenster ISD students and families,
We are at the end of our third week of Distance Learning. We continue to appreciate all of your support from home for your children in this new form of education. Be sure to make use of our student help resources, meal program, and other offerings during our facilities closure. Links are available at www.muensterisd.net/distancelearning.
Just a few reminders for the coming weeks:
- The 2020 Census is well underway. The massive undertaking of counting everyone living in the United States and five U.S. territories requires everyone’s participation. Over 75 million households have responded already. If your household has not responded, now is the time. Even if you received a paper questionnaire in the mail, you can still respond online at 2020census.gov.
- Progress Reports will be mailed home next week. These will reflect your child's progress through the first 3 weeks of Distance Learning.
- Online Student Registration for the 2020-2021 will open soon. Please complete your student's registration by May 21, 2020. If you need assistance, contact your campus office staff.
- School supply and locker items are being planned for "pick-up". The administrators and teachers will be sending more information on this soon.
- Chromebook Return: May 20 - May 28 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. will be dates and times for students to return Chromebooks that were checked-out for distance learning back to the campus they received it from and any other school items that need to be returned.
- Library Books: check your child's backpack for library books. Please return these to the school office where a drop off box is available.
- At this time, school is closed-instructing known as "Distance Learning" through May 21, 2020 per Governor Abbott's executive order stated on Friday, April 17, 2020.
- Muenster High School Graduation will happen in some form. The administrators are in the planning stages and will release when a plan has been developed.
- Muenster High School Prom has been cancelled.
- UIL Academics & Athletic events are now cancelled through the end of the school year.
- We have launched a NEW parent portal site, ASCENDER Parent Portal. Visit our website for more information.
- Our Distance Learning Plan will continue to run on a Monday-to-Sunday basis. Muenster ISD Distance Learning Webpage
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of our teachers, staff, and administrators. We miss you and look forward to all being together again! Together, we will continue to educate our Muenster ISD students, because KIDS COME FIRST.
Sincerely,
Steven Self,
Muenster ISD Superintendent
Hornet Yearbook and the COVID-19 Pandemic
This is a moment none have experienced. With the pace of near hourly change, comes a sense of uncertainty and with that, anxiety. What we want to bring into the discussion is the reality of the historical moment we are watching live. We encourage you to start photographing these moments and collecting your conversations.
Our 2020 yearbook will be unique to say the least! Let’s create an annual that reaches to the highest Muenster Hornet Traditions and something to look back on how we as a Hornet family excelled and prospered during this historic time.
We are planning a COVID-19 Divider in our 2020 Yearbook. Here are some activities we would like to include from you:
COVID-19 News and Reflection:
Images of what students did during school closure:
Popular activities
Most popular board games
Images of family time
Stories of how you stayed connected to fellow students and staff
Images of homeschooling
How your school conducted tests
How many students pulled out old photos, childhood games, etc.
How many kilometers you walked to stay active?
Your dog/cat’s reaction to all the new attention?
How your community came together to help one another during the crisis (“Acts of Kindness” provided groceries to elderly neighbor, baked, created FaceTime games, regular telephone calls to grandparents)
Please send you photos along with a short description of what is going on and who is in each photo as an email attachment to:
Please do not send actual printed photos and material as they may be quarantined.
