Hello Horizon Community,
We open the month of May with Teacher Appreciation Week. We are proud of our Horizon teachers and the work they have done to ensure that our students continue with rich learning opportunities this school year.
I salute their efforts and the good work they have done and continue to do for our students. No matter your families' situation, we will meet you where you are on this journey.
Let's have a productive learning month.

Notes from the Health Office
● Springtime in Wisconsin = Allergies for many of us. It can be hard to tell if that runny nose is just allergies or if it’s something else.
Here are some questions to help you decide:
○ Does your student have a history of allergies or is this new?
○ Does your student have other symptoms? Fever, loss of taste or smell, and body aches or chills are not usually associated with allergies
○ Has your student been exposed to Covid-19?
● The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) recently published this table.
● Please continue to use SPASD’s Health Screener, especially if your student has any symptoms. Keep your student home and contact your doctor if your student has any symptom(s) in ‘Part One’, or if they have 2 or more symptoms in ‘Part Two’.

Advanced Learner Program - Mrs. VanDerKamp
May / June
4th Grade Haiku Poetry Contest: 4th graders were given the opportunity to submit up to 3 Haiku poems to the Greater Dane 4th Grade Haiku Poetry contest. There were over 1100 poems entered. 37 students received recognition for their Haiku from schools all over Dane County. Horizon had 11 students submit poems for the contest. Uli Schultz had one of her poems recognized from the Dane County judges. She will have her poem published in the annual Haiku poetry book and she will have the opportunity to attend a virtual celebration for all of the chosen students. Here is Uli’s poem:
Pearl #3
Pearl is my nature.
Her mood changes like seasons.
Sweet, sleepy, starved, mad!
Congratulations to all of the students who entered poems into the competition!
Summer Opportunities: The ALP specialists have created a document of Summer Opportunities in the Sun Prairie and surrounding areas. These opportunities for all kids include academics, sports, music, art, theater, nature and science.
Happy Summer,
