All reading logs will be due no later than Friday, March 27th (our last day before Spring Break)! After Spring Break, prizes will be awarded to the top readers in each grade level, and every participant will receive recognition.

Family Reading Night

Make plans to attend our Family Reading Night, on Monday, January 26th! We will be hosting several local authors during this special event. There will be an opportunity for you to buy the books showcased for your child...and have them autographed, too!

We will also pre-sell Chick-Fil-A dinners for $5.00. Dinner includes a sandwich, chips, and water. Click here for a dinner order form.

Dinner will be served at 6pm, and the Reading Night Authors' Showcase will be 6:30-8:00.

Some of the authors joining us for this event are Frederick Baus, Paul Hohmann, Jeffrey J. Lefko, Beth Templeton, Jonathan Miller, and Kate Salley Palmer. (Jonathan Miller will also be joining us during the school day on the 26th, and students can purchase his books that day. Click here for an order form.)

Come join us for a fun-filled night of celebrating reading!

Book of the Week: Exclamation Mark

Exclamation Mark, written and illustrated by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld, is a nominee for the 14-15 South Carolina Picture Book Award.

Exclamation Mark, or !, tells the tale of the most exciting (and often overused) punctuation mark. All ! wanted to do was fit in, but, as the saying goes, "He was born to stand out." He tries everything he can to be like the marks around him, but nothing works.

One day, an encounter with a rather annoying question mark, makes this little exclamation mark snap, and a whole new world opens up to him! He finds his voice, and he learns that it's okay to be different. Being different is what makes him special.

Battle of the Books has begun!

Battle of the Books has begun at Fork Shoals! Our team of 4th and 5th grade students will compete against other schools in the county to see who knows our selected books the best.

Practices are held each Tuesday afternoon, 2:30-3:00, and each Wednesday morning, 7:30-7:55. Team members can choose to attend one or both of our weekly practices. We'll practice each Tuesday and Wednesday until our regional competition on March 10th.
