Queridas familias,

feliz viernes y espero que hayáis disfrutado de una buena semana. Esta fue una semana corta después del fin de semana largo del Día de Martin Luther King Jr. y los estudiantes han seguido mostrando una gran perseverancia al sumergirse en sus estudios para 2023. Esta semana tuvimos dos reuniones de padres (Grupo de afinidad de padres afroamericanos y Asociación de padres y maestros) y Agradezco a todos ustedes que muestran su apoyo a James John al salir y apoyar a estos grupos. También tuvimos otro exitoso "Día de caminar y rodar a la escuela" y celebramos nuestro tema mensual de perseverancia. Incluso bajo la lluvia torrencial hubo muchos estudiantes y familias que salieron y participaron en este evento grupal. Finalmente, hoy en la escuela, fue grandioso ver al Maestro Parada y un grupo de estudiantes honrar el próximo Año Nuevo Lunar Chino dirigiendo nuestra tradición anual de la Danza del León. ¡Tenemos muchas grandes tradiciones en nuestra escuela y esperamos que aquellos de ustedes que honran el Año Nuevo Lunar tengan un gran fin de semana celebrando el Año del Conejo!

Dear Families,

Happy Friday and I hope you have enjoyed a good week. This was a short week after the long weekend of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and students have continued to show great perseverance diving into their studies for 2023. This week we had two parent meetings (Black Parent Affinity Group and Parent Teacher Association) and we appreciate you all showing support for James John by coming out and supporting these groups. We also had another successful “Walk and Roll to School Day” and celebrated our monthly theme of perseverance. Even in the pouring rain there were many students and families who came out and participated in this group event. Finally, today at school, it was great to see Maestro Parada and a group of students honor the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year by leading our annual tradition of the Lion Dance. We have many great traditions at our school and hope that that those of you who honor Lunar New Year have a great weekend celebrating the Year of the Rabbit!

Dear James John Families,

Our district values your feedback! Starting January 23rd, our school’s annual Successful School Survey window will be opening and will be provided in your heritage language. During that time we will be asking you to take a brief survey to tell us about your experience with the Portland Public School District and our school, James John Elementary.

To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. We want to know what you think.

The survey will begin on January 23rd, 2023 and will close on Febuaray 28th, 2023. You will be able to take the survey online at home, or you can visit our school and take the survey at our on site computer hub. More information to come!

**Our Black History Celebration is February 23rd. The school is ordering free T-shirts for every student. If you would like to order a shirt for yourself or for a sibling that is NOT at James John you can order online at https://jamesjohn.memberhub.com/store or check your student's backpack today for an order form. Order forms and payment must be returned by Tuesday 1/24 to make sure we have enough time for them to arrive. If you have any questions please email Christine at communications@jamesjohnpta.org.

**We are redecorating the Staff lounge and would love to have help next Friday 1/27. We have new furniture that needs to be put together, a little painting and finding new homes for some of the items currently in there.
