The High School scheduling window is open from February 3rd through February 16th. Students should log into their PASS accounts to register for courses (directions for online registration). Families may access the SHS Program of Studies 2017-2018 on the High School Website, as there is not a printed booklet as in the past. Students are welcome to begin the registration process on their own on their PASS account. All 8th grade students will have the opportunity to schedule at SMS on the following days:
Dragons - 2/9 during IE
Adventurer/Vanguards - 2/10 during IE
Pirates & Crusaders - 2/10 during Science
Current 6th & 7th Graders
In the next few weeks, students will begin scheduling their classes for next year. Parents will do so through an online format. It will be extremely user friendly. Once the scheduling window opens up, you will be given instructions on how to access the course selection sheet on our SMS website.

SMS PTA General Meeting
Our next SMS PTA General Meeting will be on Monday, February 13th, at 1:15pm. We finally found a "home" that works for our meetings, and will be meeting again in the Media Center.
We hope to see you at the next meeting!
Orchestra Baroque Bass Experience!
This Tuesday, Mrs. Rogers' 7th grade Orchestra students had an amazing opportunity. Sue Yelanjian, principal bassist from world renowned Baroque Orchestra Apollo's Fire, Akron Symphony, Blossom Festival Orchestra, and Cleveland Pops, performed for our string players in class. The students have been learning and performing Baroque era music, and Mrs. Yelanjian brought her Baroque Bass to perform for the students and answer their questions! She also gave all of our 7th grade bass players sectionals and coached our resident 7th grade string quartet. You can learn more about Apollo's Fire on their homepage. This was a special opportunity for the Orchestra students and bassists, as they learned about Baroque style and being a professional musician from our fantastic guest!
Middle School Teen Stress Relief Program
The Strongsville Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library is offering a stress relief program for middle school teens called "Treat Yourself, Body and Mind". The event will take place on March 17th from 7:00 - 8:30PM and is geared towards students in grades 5-9. The program will teach teens about stress and different ways to cope. Participants will also make a lavender sugar scrub that is perfect for relaxing in the bath. For more information, please contact the library at 440-238-5530.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be taking place, again, on Weds, Feb 15. from 4:00-7:00. Depending on what grade-level team your child is on, conference format will vary. Please consult your child's team leader if you have any questions or concerns.
Career Cafe
Earlier today we had our Career Cafe speaker, Jodi Heflin. She is a civil engineer with a specific background in early project development, traffic engineering, and environmental studies to support transportation projects. She talked about her experience working with these specialties, but she also talked in a broader sense about the diverse career opportunities in civil engineering – from aviation to transit to planning to detailed design to construction. She talked about what kind of education, training, and skills are needed for careers in civil engineering.
Students enjoyed the sessions- and some hot chocolate along the way.

Athletic Booster Club Meeting
Strongsville Athletic Boosters will be having their next meeting in the Media Center of the Strongsville Middle School at 7PM Monday, February 13. The guest speaker will be Mr. Chad Hubbell, SMS athletic director. He will give a recap of fall and winter sports and what we have to look forward to coming into the spring, as well as next fall. This is also a great time for our 8th grade parents to come and meet the high school Athletic Director, Mr. Andy Jalwan. There is always a question and answer segment at our meetings.
