Weekly Update from Room 1
for the week of April 17th-21st
Social-Emotional
A part of being responsible is taking care of our grades in school to help our brains grow! We will discuss what a goal is and what our kindergarten goals are.
Goals can be short-term, like getting a good score on my math assessment this week, or they can be long-term, like becoming a doctor one day! What goals do you have?
Math

2D= flat shapes that we cannot pick up.
3D= solid shapes that can be moved

Hexagon
Cylinder
Sphere

Phonics
We are all in on blending (or reading) and segmenting (or spelling) words with digraphs.
Digraphs
th
ch
sh
wh
ck
Phonics Rules & Tricks
"CK" only comes are the end of a word, as long as the vowel is short. EX: duck, chick, sick
The beginning /k/ sound will be a "C" if the next vowel is "a,o, or u" and will be "K" if the next vowel is "i or e". EX: cat, cot, cut; kid, kit, key
When a vowel makes a long sound in a word, we add a magic "e" to the end. EX: "like", "bike", "make"
Ways to Practice at home:
Verbalize a letter or digraph and have your child write it!
Verbalize a word to your child such as: "rat" (CVC) "chin" (CCVC)or "math" (CVCC) and have them tap the word and write it!
Ask your child to draw and label a picture and then make a sentence underneath!
Reading & Writing
Reading/Writing: Spring
We will read Spring Read Aloud's and write about our favorite part of spring. We will be working on creating a proper sentence using a capital letter, spaces, and correct punctuation.
Remember: It is developmentally appropriate for your child to have tricky words misspelled. For example: the word "park" may be spelled "prk", as students have not learned the "ar" rule yet :)
High Frequency Words of the Week: out, off
Quarter 2 Sight Words
Quarter 3 Sight Words
Quarter 4 Sight Words
Quarter 4 Goals
Learning Luggage
All books must be kept in the luggage at all times (except when reading them, of course!). These are school-based books that have fees in lost or damaged. We are keeping track periodically to stay on top of it!
Worksheets are for your own at-home practice and do not need to be returned!
The CVC tapping cards are also for your child to practice and can be kept at home or in the luggage.
We will replace materials weekly. The Great Minds books will be replaced monthly, as they are 4-in-1 books.
