ISAT-SB in April
The start of quarter 4 brings the opportunity for students to show what they know and have learned this year on the state ISAT-SB assessments. Students in grades 6, 7, 8 will be testing during the month of April. All students will take the math and language arts assessments. Seventh grade will also take an assessment in science.
Attendance every day is important throughout the year and continues during this time. Students need to be present to take the test during the arranged times. Testing will start the week we return from break, April 2nd.
Testing will be completed on student devices. Charging their devices nightly; bringing the device with a full charge each day is important. This limits the distraction of a low battery and allows students to keep focused on the assessment.
Here are some tips to preparation for testing:
- Eat three meals a day.
- Get a full night of sleep.
- Have confidence in yourself!
- Charge your laptop nightly.
Spring Break is here!
Spring Break starts tomorrow for students. Quarter 3 ends today. There is no school for students Friday, March 22-Friday March 29th. The school will be closed March 25th-29th. Quarter 4 begins April 1st. Enjoy your break everyone!
Walk-a-Thon in May
The annual school fundraiser, the Walk-A-Thon, will take place May 10th (weather permitting). This is the only school-wide fundraiser that West holds. The funds go toward student incentives, field trips, academic awards.
We need your participation to make this a success. All students participating is the key. These funds allow us to continue to expand the opportunities at West for students.
If you are able to help as a chaperone, please contact the school. Providing funds for activities for your student to participate on this day will be a great benefit. Thank you for your support!
Course Requesting for 2019-2020
6th and 7th grade students will preview next year’s class offerings in April. They will receive the course information and are asked to take it home for parents/guardians to review with them.
Please check in with your student(s) about this. It is exciting for them to look forward to what lies ahead and have choice in their elective classes.

College Visits
West goes to College
Our 8th grade students will visit Boise State University on April 17th. This is a great opportunity for them to look ahead at possibilities for them in their future. On the visit they will tour the campus, visit a classroom and see a chemistry show. This will give them the experience of a day in the life of a college student.
Our 7th and 8th grade AVID students are going to visit CWI (College of Western Idaho). This will take place on May 17th. They will visit the Micron CTE building. CTE stands for Career and Technical Education. This is a hands on learning, vocational side of education.
These will be great experiences for our students. If you are interested in chaperoning either visit, please contact Katie McKenzie at West. Katie is our Career and College Counselor.
