A Message from Proud Principal, Laura Clark

We've had a busy week here at Parsons! Thank you to everyone who attended Curriculum Night. This night was filled with collaboration between home and school which supports our students' success. As a busy mom I know how difficult it is to juggle life events. If you were unable to attend, please check your child's eClass page. Teachers will be sharing their slide show for you to view.

Let's hear it for all the dads and special visitors who attended ALL Pro Dads this morning. We had a packed house. The message was powerful. It focused on the most important thing we can give our kids- OUR TIME! Our school community is filled with parents who value time supporting their child's education. This is one reason why our school is so GREAT!

Enjoy your weekend and take TIME to have fun and rejuvenate before we take on another busy week!

Proud Principal,

Mrs. Clark

Hello and Goodbye!

This week has been filled with emotion as we welcome our new assistant principal, Mrs. Sheri Tolar, and we say goodbye to Mrs. Nancy Childers, who has served as our interim AP. Mrs. Childers will be greatly missed. Her leadership experience and passion for education have served Parsons so well. We wish Mrs. Childers the best as she re-enters retirement. We are so grateful for service.

Reading Volunteers Wanted

Do you like to read Children's Literature? The Media Center is looking for some parents to read one or more of the Readers Rally titles (there are 15 total books) and write questions for our Readers Rally team to study in preparation for their competition in February. Readers Rally is for students in the 4th and 5th grade, and you do not need to have a student participating to read the books.

We are also looking for parents to volunteer during the school day in the Media Center throughout the year. Our book fairs this year will be in October & February, and we will need many volunteers during this time as well.

If you are interested, please contact Sharon Britt in the Media Center, complete the volunteer form on the Parsons Media Center website or email Thanks so much for your continued support of the Media Center.

Student Checkout

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM.

Fundraiser Kick Off!

Our PTA Fundraiser has officially begun! Rumor has it...each student who raises $500 gets to put a PIE to the face of the Principal! Oh MY! The first $10 earns students a cool ring spinner. I know the students are super excited and the fundraiser supports the purchasing of Chromebooks and STEM software. Let's have a super Fundraiser Kick Off!

After School Clubs

We have several opportunities for your students to participate in after school clubs sponsored by outside agencies. You will be receiving different registration forms for the clubs that will be available for you to register your child for in your Friday folders each week. If you are interested, you must register online or on their form with the companies that are offering the classes. The school does not take registration forms or money.

Here are the clubs that will be offered this semester-- Chess Club, Tennis Club, Drama Kids (this class is full at this time with a wait list), Tiger Jo's Taekwon Do, Young Rembrandts, i9 Sports, Spanish Club and Korean Language.

As you pick up your students, please remember that Car Pool policies are the same after school as it is during school hours. Parents are to stay in your car and your student will be brought to your car. This is a safety procedure that continues any time you are in the car rider lanes.

Parsons Reading Program

The Parsons Reading Program will begin in September and continue until the end of March. Students need to read a minimum of 100 minutes per week. “Reading for 20 minutes per day exposes you to 1.8 million words a year.” We are fortunate to be able to use the same Beanstack program that is offered through the Gwinnett County Public Library to track our minutes at Parsons. This is the same format that is used for the summer reading program. You will only be logging minutes (100 minutes per week), and they must be submitted online through Beanstack during the program. If your student attended Parsons last year, they should already have an account. Please check before you create another account for your student. You will need to edit the patron and check the current grade level and add the homeroom teacher's name in the name field along with your student's name. Those students who read 2500 minutes this year will receive a certificate of accomplishment and will be invited to the Reading Celebration at the end of the school year. Please see the directions attached to this eNews. Happy Reading!
