Leeds SCITT Newsletter
Winter 2018 - number 2
Welcome to the Leeds SCITT Newsletter
Welcome to our second Leeds SCITT Newsletter for this academic year. Our aim is to share good practice across the partnership, keeping all interested parties up to speed with key information. Well done to Lennon Simpson, for being nominated our first Trainee of the Week and thank you to Alex Prentice for sharing an experience from Stage 1.
Celebrating Your Success - Trainee of the Week
Sharing is Caring - Alex Prentice English Trainee shares her story below
"Last week was my first full week with my year 7 and year 10 classes and with a university deadline looming tensions and emotions were high. However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel when a year 7 from one of my classes approached me and said, "Miss I saw you last night in Menston" Panic loomed. Questions filled my head. Where had she seen me? What had I been up to? What embarrassing story was she about to tell?"
"Oh...did you?" I asked nervously.
"Yes and I told my parents that you were my English teacher"
Relief flooded through me and was quickly replaced with admiration and pride. Pride within myself that a pupil was actually seeing me as their teacher. My anxiety and self doubt was replaced with happiness, fulfillment and joy. Sometimes its the small things that make our week."
Frequently asked questions.
13th December - CBT day venue to be confirmed
4th Jan - You will take the holidays of your Lead School but everyone will be at Trinity on the 4th Jan for the career workshop.
How many lessons should I be teaching now? Remember that SCITT is a personalised programme, this is something you need to discuss with your mentor. Everyone should be on a minimum of 6 lessons a week by now and for four weeks of your placement you will need to be teaching 10 lessons. (see p9 of stage 2/3 handbook).
Do all lesson plans need to be uploaded on to Schoolip? No. You only need to upload the lessons you require for your SchooliP Evidence Portfolio ( see p 35/36 of the stage 2/3 handbook). Other lessons and resources should be saved in an organised manner in your teaching file, this can be done as an electronic folder on your laptop.
Do all lessons have to be evaluated in detail? Only those lessons that accompany your progression planing and review. Your everyday lesson plans do need to be evaluated bullet points only, are fine.
Lesson Observations and Reflective Journal.
Over the next few weeks your Link Tutors will be organising, to come into your school for your first stage 1 visit. They will also be looking at your evidence on schoolip. Your Link Tutors should be able to find one formal lesson observation a week and your Reflective Journal by using the filter system in your evidence.
Stage 2 priority - effective target setting
Special Strategies for Managing Behaviour
Here is some advice from last years trainees
‘Always remember you are in the most rewarding profession, but most importantly – you will surprise yourself this year. You will be able to work harder than you imagined and achieve with a little hard work and dedication.
Use the support and friendship from your peers’ ( D&T Trainee).
