A Message from the Administration
Over the past 5 years, Williston, along with the other schools in Chittenden South Supervisory Union, have focused heavily on science instruction with the goal of improving student learning in this area. This has resulted in updated curriculum materials, lab facilities, teacher training, connections with IBM, and this year, the creation of our “Create It Lab” program. In the midst of all this, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), have been published and we are starting our transition to them with the support of the grant funded CSSU Science Coordinator. The NGSS are exciting to engage with as they include a strong engineering component.
The highly rigorous science NECAP is given to 4th and 8th grade students throughout Vermont (and other states). It includes content knowledge sections, writing about science concepts and a hands-on inquiry task to complete and analyze. Last week, NECAP science scores were released across the state. The Williston scores at the 4th (representing K-4 learning) and 8th (representing 5-8 learning) were well-above the state average.
