AP Testing
Every year, the College Board offers an AP test for every AP course that a school might offer. The point of each test is to measure student mastery of the AP curriculum. Students who do well on these AP tests are able to earn college credit for the work that they have done in high school.

The Debate Team Club has viewed national debates, and has started learning how to build planks to support affirmative arguments for next year’s tournament topic.

Environmental Club
Visit to Batona Trail in the Bass River State Forest.
Mr. DuBrul's Environmental Club hiked 9 miles along the Batona Trail in the Bass River State Forest on Saturday, April 14. 2018. Students got to see bald eagles and a fence lizard and a good time was had by all.

National Honor Society
NHS Peer Tutoring is available every Tuesday after school starting at 2:10 p.m. in Room D106.
Volunteers are preparing to help out at the MS Walk and the MDA Eats and Beats Festival this month.
Invitations to apply for NHS membership went out in April. Induction for new members will be on May 9th.

Yearbook Information- 2017-2018
Online orders for yearbooks can be made until May 30. If you did not order a yearbook online, there will be some extra copies available for purchase during lunch after June 8 (the Junior-Senior Banquet). The price is still $72. Yearbooks that are purchased at the end of the year can be paid for using cash or cashier checks only. Due to processing time for checks, no personal checks will be accepted at that time.

Student Council News and Interact Club
FHS students have been involved in many worthwhile projects this month.
The FHS Student Council collected Easter items to complete baskets for Providence House, a shelter for abused women and their families. The group assembled 35 baskets in order to provide each child at the shelter with a gift for the Easter holiday. The baskets included snacks, candy, stuffed animals, toys, coloring books and crayons.
The Interact Club participated in the Eats and Beats Fundraiser to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Club members assisted with games, face painting and clean up duties at the event held on April 21 at the Roebling Museum.
Interact members will be serving as waiters for the Florence Methodist Church annual Mother-Daughter event on April 29.
The Student Council and Interact Club collected 30 dresses for the spring spring prom drive. The groups also collected shoes, purses, jewelry and suits, All items collected were delivered to Twin Oaks Community Services which will distributes them to young women and men in need in Burlington County.
These two groups are also joining forces to assist with a shoe drive and a spaghetti dinner to benefit 4 Paws for Kendall. These endeavors will benefit, Kendall Wirth, a Florence preschooler with autism. Her family is raising funds for a service dog that will assist Kendall when she is in the community.
The spaghetti dinner will be held on Saturday, May 12. Shoes will be collected at all district schools until June 9.

Newspaper Club
The school newspaper will be running it's first edition at the end of April. Students are going to be working hard to get a second edition out in May and have been covering what's going on in our school and sports community! Students will be learning about interview techniques this month.

Class of 2018--Senior Class News.
The Senior Class Trip is scheduled from April 28 to May 1 in Walt Disney World, Florida. The students can look forward to a fun-filled time riding the many rides Disney has to offer and enjoying the many shows and parades that will be going on throughout their stay.
The students will also be taking in the Blue Man Group show and a special dinner at Epcot to watch the ILLUMINATIONS Laser Light Show.
We will be spending the day at Universal Studios on Tuesday before heading home.

Class of 2019--Junior Class.
The Junior Class is hosting the 2018 Prom at the Doubletree in Mount Laurel, New Jersey on May 18. The prom will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the evening.
Advisors: Ms. Finamore and Ms. Tannenbaum.
Class of 2020--Sophomore Class
The Sophomore Class is working on next year's location for the Junior-Senior Prom.
Class of 2021--Freshmen Class
Advisors: Mrs. Smith and Ms. Laird
Art Club
The "Art Club" has started canvas panel paintings. Club members are looking forward to working with tempera and acrylic paint on the panels!

Computer Club
Students are working on a school-based website to help update the students about activities and announcements.
They are also beginning the process of working on the new drones to calibrate them for flight for a student summer program.

Cultural Awareness for Everyone Club
The group met three times and identified four projects they would like to achieve before the end of the school year.
1. Banner Project with our student body.
2. "Words of Kindness" display.
3. "International Food Event"-- Students are planning this event.
Several discussions have taken place to determine food, date and location.
4. "International Pen Pals-- Our members discussed having international pen pals, and we will be researching how to make this happen.
Game Club
The Game Club will be playing the game of "Life" board game Fish and Phase 10. The meeting dates for the Month of May--May 8 and 22.

Counseling Office News
Course Scheduling for 2018-19:
The counselors are visiting every English class to thoroughly review teacher recommendations and elective options. The students will then make their initial selections and they are being asked to discuss their choices with their family. Please contact your child’s counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
Summer Programs and Scholarships:
All students should check their school email regularly for various opportunities and scholarships. Our Twitter feed also lists many national scholarships and programs.
RCBC Spring Ahead Program:
RCBC Scheduling: Seniors involved in the Spring Ahead program toured the Mt. Laurel campus, met their advisor, and scheduled their classes for the fall semester on April 17, 2018. There will be a Family Information session on May 9th at RCBC Mt. Laurel for students and families who have done the Spring Ahead process.
College and Trade School Visitations:

SAT: Go to https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat to register for the SAT and for accurate dates, registration deadlines, and locations. SAT Fee Waivers are available for 11th and 12th graders on the Free/Reduced Lunch Program. Students with a documented disability may be eligible for accommodations on College Board tests. Please contact your child’s counselor or Child Study Team case manager to discuss the process and answer your questions

Genesis Gradebook
Please make full use of Genesis gradebook to keep up-to-date on your child’s academic progress. You can view current class grades, assignments, and test and quiz grades as well. If you are having trouble logging in or need your email and password reset, please contact your child’s counselor as soon as possible.

Progress Reports...May 23
Progress Reports – Just as a reminder, "Progress Reports" will be issued on Wednesday, May 23, and they will also be available in Genesis. To view your child’s report card, simply log in to Genesis (https://parents.genesisedu.com/florence) and click on the “Grading” tab at the top of the window.
Also, please feel free to log in to Genesis at any time to see how your child is progressing in his or her courses. Checking Genesis frequently will enable you to see clearly how your child is performing throughout the school year.
If you are having trouble logging in or need your email and password reset, please contact your child’s counselor as soon as possible.
Parents Organization--Gift Certificate Program
Sign up at any time. Open to 4th through 12th graders. Save money towards student expenses just by buying groceries. You purchase gift cards in denominations of $5 to $100. These are sold on a cash only basis. For every $100 you spend $5 is put in your student’s account to be used at your discretion for student expenses. Anyone (relatives, friends, etc.) can purchase certificates and contribute to your child’s account. GIFT CERTIFICATES ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR TOWN MARKET, ACME, AND SHOP-RITE. Each time you purchase the gift certificates you will receive a receipt for your records. Twice a year you will receive a computerized statement showing how much you have accumulated in your child's account. The certificates are sold on most WEDNESDAY EVENINGS FROM 5:45 TO 6:45 IN THE FLORENCE MUNICIPAL BUILDING.

January is recognized as Cervical Cancer Month. This is a reminder that the Burlington County Health Department offers free HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccines to county residents under the age of 18 years who are uninsured or on Medicaid. These vaccines can be obtained by qualifying residents by calling the Health Department. Spring Sports have started off slow because of the unusual weather in the beginning of April.
Hopefully, the weather breaks and all of the teams can get rolling in the right direction.
· Baseball
Flashes baseball currently holds an overall record of 4-5 and a divisional
record of 2-2. They had BCSL Freedom division wins over Maple Shade and Burlington City.
· Softball
Florence softball has an overall record of 2-7 and a division record of 0-3.
They have wins over Burlington County Scholastic League opponents
Willingboro and Medford Tech.
· Girl’s Track
The Girl’s track team has a 1-1 record. They defeated divisional opponent
Burlington City. At the September 14th West Deptford Relay the following student-athletes medaled…
