Dewing School Happenings
Welcome back to a new calendar year! We hope that as the days get longer and the sun begins to shine more, your new calendar year will be filled with much joy, happiness and good health.
Mid-year assessments in reading and mathematics will be happening during the rest of January until February vacation. Attendance and participation in classes is important, plus making time every day to read at home.

FREE ALPHABEST SERVICES!! - 21CCLC/AlphaBEST partnership survey
Balancing student learning, adult work, and family life is HARD this year. We hear that families need help. We believe we have a unique opportunity to use after-school and out of school time grant funds for school day remote learning support - starting as early as February 1.
Dewing 21st Century Community Learning Center and AlphaBEST are teaming up to offer students and families a choice on remote learning days (both full and partial) while we continue in the Hybrid Plan of instruction.
Depending on level of interest, Dewing 21CCLC will offer AT NO COST TO FAMILIES enrollment at the AlphaBEST Andover Street location for school day hours.
Hours available - Cohort A students:
Monday: end of school to 3:05
Tuesday: end of school to 3:05
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:45 - 3:05
Hours available - Cohort B students:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 8:45 - 3:05
Thursday: end of school to 3:05
Friday: end of school to 3:05
Hours available - Remote Learning Academy students:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:45 - 3:05
Students will need to bring their own learning devices and headphones. AlphaBEST staff will supervise students, who will be grouped by school and cohort. Students going from Dewing to AlphaBEST after school have the option of bus transportation. All other transportation is the responsibility of families.
In order to gauge interest, we ask that you fill out this short survey. https://forms.gle/WU3CxfP9h9EcPt72A
Attendance
When your child is working at home on a remote day, your child must login to the scheduled meets in order to be marked present. Your child must remain on screen for the entire session. We understand that there may be some extenuating circumstances. Please discuss these with your child's teacher.
TPS-COVID-19 Dashboard
As indicated in the recent email to parents from Assistant Superintendent Regan, the district will now be sharing positive COVID-19 case data by school on the new TPS COVID-19 Active Case Dashboard which can be found on the TPS website by clicking on the yellow COVID-19 Resources & Updates banner bar at the top of the home page. The link below will be included in my weekly principal's message to allow for quick access to this dashboard. If a new case does occur at the school, parents or caregivers of any student considered a close contact will be contacted by the nurse.
See below for information sent in previous newsletters. This information is still important for us to share!

Important Health and Travel Information
IMPORTANT: The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has mandated that all students receive the flu vaccine this year by December 31st. Please send to school the documentation that states that your child has received this vaccine. This mandate also applies to remote learners as well.
Tewksbury Public Schools are following all of the Department of Public Health Guidelines regarding travel outside of Massachusetts. If for any reason your Dewing School student has to travel to a high risk state, you must follow the guidelines for testing and quarantine. This is to ensure the health and safety of all Dewing School students and staff. The states that are determined to be low risk can change weekly so you need to keep that in mind in when traveling. These guidelines are located on the Massachusetts DPH COVID -19 website and the low risk states are listed on the link below:

Visitors to the Dewing/Late arrivals/Nurse Dismissals
Late Arrivals-If your child is dropped off to school after 8:45, you must park in an assigned parking spot (not the bus drop off lane) and walk your child to the door. Please ring the bell and wait for a staff member to greet your child in person.
Nurse Dismissals-If your child is dismissed by the nurse, the dismissal area is now through the gym door (last door, closest to the C-wing). The gym is located on the right side of the building as you are facing the building. This is also the parent drop off area. You must call the nurse from your car to inform her of your arrival 97-640-7858 x303
We know that these procedures are different from other years and we appreciate your adherence to them. Every change we make is done to support the health and safety of our community. Thank you.
Should your child be dismissed for school, due to illness, you will receive the following notice.
