Principal's Post
Dear Mill Creek Community,
If you are interested, there is an opportunity to provide some service for the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday/Day of Service, mostly in the comfort of your own home. My thanks to Mr. Molenari for organizing. Please see his message below...
This Monday we will be observing the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. While we do not have school on this day, we would like to honor his legacy by participating in an activity that will help our community. For the first time, Mill Creek will participate in the Soup-er Bowl of volunteering. We are asking students and their families to make soup this this weekend and to save some to give to some local food banks. If you would like to participate all you have to do is:
- Make soup at home.
- Put soup into containers. 16 oz works best. (the container would be part of the donation).
- Label the container with the kind of soup you cooked.
- Bring soup to Mill Creek on Monday, January 17 between 4:00 and 5:00.
We will then deliver the soup to families in need of something to eat.
Remember, Monday is more than a day off, it is a day on!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
As we come upon the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday/Day of Service on Monday, I am reminded that Dr. King famously had “a dream” for true equality and brother(and sister)hood, as well as focused many of his efforts waging a war on poverty. You can certainly argue that we still have much work to do in reaching the true reality of his dream in many regards, but Dr. King’s work and the sacrifices he made have led to significant movement towards equality and brother/sisterhood in America and has inspired many others to find unique and innovative ways (e.g. community refrigerators) to combat the issue of poverty in the United States.
In honor of Dr. King and his work, many will choose to make Monday "a day on" as opposed to "a day off" by performing some service activity. If you are seeking something where you can contribute, see Mr. Ortman's message above and his communication of a wonderful service initiative organized by Mill Creek 5th Grade teacher Mr. Molenari. Many, many thanks to Mr. Mole for providing our interested students and families with this opportunity!
Whether you choose to participate in our Soup-er-bowl of volunteering or whether you serve in some other way (e.g. helping a community/family member in need; serving to benefit/support your own family/household in some way), I wish the Mill Creek Community a wonderful long weekend!
Mr. John C. Murtha
Assistant Principal
