A word from Mr Broom

Firstly, thank you to everyone for your co-operation and understanding on Monday when we had to close the Co-op and library gates. During Sunday evening the fence had blown down. I’m delighted to say that NYCC were very quick to rectify the problem and reestablished the fencing by Monday lunchtime. We are expecting a heavy storm this weekend so hopefully the new fence will stay in place.

It’s been a very exciting week in school. I must have shown at least 20 prospective candidates around for the new Reception teacher post we have out at the minute. Don’t worry, Miss Ball isn’t leaving! We’re expanding our Reception group to 60 in September and therefore require a new teacher.

Next week is our final week of the half term. Martyn Sibley, the CEO, is visiting school on Tuesday and I can’t wait to share the wonderful learning going on in our classrooms with him.

It’s going to be a wild and windy weekend so take care if you’re out and about.

Weekly Work Focus - Individual Liberty in Y5

I was delighted to receive exceptional pieces of British Values work from Year 5 this week. Scarlett, Megan, Grace and Oliver came to share their work on Individual Liberty that they had completed with Mr Kelly.

PE Kit Reminder

A quick reminder on our procedures for PE kit. As we do lots of physical activity during the week, we advise that children bring their PE kit to school on Mondays and take it home for washing on Fridays. We seem to have a small number of children who are disturbing other classes to ask for spare PE kit to wear when they don’t have their own. Thank you.

Educational Needs Support for Parents

North Yorkshire County Council are hosting a series of drop-ins for supporting parents who have children with communication needs or parents who suspect their child to have communication needs.

Use of Class Dojo

While we really enjoy sharing your child’s achievements and learning through Class Dojo, we kindly ask that for absences and pick up messages that you call the school office. Class teachers don’t have constant access to Class Dojo and sometimes miss the messages.

Thank you.

Important SATs Meeting for Y6

Miss Sowden will be hosting an important meeting re Year 6 SATs on Tuesday 3rd March at 6pm in the school hall.

All Y6 children and parents are invited to attend this important meeting which should last about 40 minutes.

Attendance almost at National

With an average of 95.9%, our attendance this week is very close to the national average.

Well done to those children with great attendance and congratulations to Year 5 who are our attendance champions this week with 99.3%

Mobile Phone Use by Pupils - TIK TOK WARNING

A reminder that pupils who bring phones to school (for travel to and from school) should not use them on the school premises. Thank you.

We are also aware that children in school are using an App called TikTok to communicate with each other and the wider world. I've included a parent information sheet regarding the dangers of this app, intended for use by those over 12. To access the App, your child has to have fabricated their age (to appear over 12) or has been granted permission by an adult.

Spring Term Learning Journeys

At Sherburn Hungate Primary School, we plan our learning through what is known as a Learning Journey. This typically starts with a 'big bang' event (something to spark imagination and enthusiasm for the topics covered) and ends with a 'showcase' (a celebration of the children's work to an audience).
