3rd & 4th Grade Updates
Week of September 26
This Week in 3rd and 4th Grade
Language Arts
Third grade is getting ready to start our next Senderos story, "El regalo de Destiny" (Destiny's Gift). We will continue to work on the verb gustar and add more verbs like gustar this week. Students will also start a "Todo sobre mí" writing project. On last week's spelling test, 11 of the 16 students who were present to take it earned 100%! Way to go third graders! Our next spelling test will be Wednesday, October 5 as there is no school for students on Friday, October 7 for the Archdiocesan Teacher Excellence Day.
Fourth grade is reading "Una escuela magnífica" and working on school vocabulary. We have been working on parts of speech, particularly nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will be working on adding more extensive, descriptive adjectives to our vocabulary to describe the world and people around us.
Math
We have started Chapter 2 and are currently working on mental math and estimation. Currently, we are working on rounding to the nearest ten (decena más cercana) and hundred (centena más cercana). Our classes also include daily practice of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Please keep practicing those, particularly multiplication and division, with your child at home! We are looking for improvement in accuracy and speed.
Science
Both grades have completed their first investigation on soil composition. We learned that soil is made up of many different things and how to identify those. This week we will have our second experiment focusing on physical weathering.
Social Studies
Third grade continues to work on map skills, latitude and longitude. This week we will start looking at states, as well as maps to sharpen our map skills. If you have any old maps that you're willing to share with us, we would love to have them! Fourth grade is working on exploration and early European explorers.
