Thank You!
Thank you for all of your patience today as we navigated through new waters. I appreciate those of you who reached out with concerns and were patient with us as we responded and tried to fix problems. I am hoping that each day this will become a little easier, and we will all begin to settle into a new routine of learning and growing.
Below I have included some information that may help students and families with our technology.
During Flex Block today, our students shared their Hopes for the coming year. Here is a little taste of what they said:

Band and Chorus during Remote Learning
Dear Middle School Band and Chorus Parents,
We hope this communication finds you well. We are very busy preparing to provide a full and engaging musical experience for your Middle School student.
As you may know, The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Massachusetts has released guidelines around teaching music this year. Those guidelines are especially conservative around the safe playing and singing of music indoors. To that end FPS has decided to offer music classes in place of Band and Chorus for grades 6,7,and 8 for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year. This was not an easy decision, and we know this will be a disappointment to those students who have been playing as a part of the FPS band program since grade five. It is the commitment of all administrators that once DESE reviews and revises its guidelines, we will work together to bring band and chorus back to our middle schools. The Principals value all that these disciplines bring to the lives of our kids and to our school communities.
In the meantime, every student in grades 6-8 will rotate through a performing arts class each trimester. The teachers and administrators are excited to bring engaging and active lessons on the many facets of performing to your students. It won’t replace band or chorus, but it will be engaging, fun, and most importantly, safe for all students.
In addition, the FPS Fine and Performing Arts staff will be available to provide band, jazz band, show choir and theatre opportunities to students after school using a virtual platform. Once we get school underway you can expect to hear from your performing arts teacher with details. It won’t replace the live, during the day ensemble experience but it will keep the energy going until we can be in person again.
“Without music, life would be a mistake.” – Friedrich Nietzsche. We at FPS know this to be true and the sounds of playing and singing will be back as soon as we can make it safe. In the meantime, please keep playing and singing at home. When it is safe to come back,we will be ready.
Sincerely
Donna A Wresinski
