News and Announcements
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT - AUGUST 26
Dear Parent / Guardians,
On behalf of Walnut High School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year! Out of an abundance of caution and in anticipation of having large numbers of parents and students on campus at the same time, we have decided to hold our Back to School Night virtually on August 26 at 6:00 pm. Virtual Back to School will be held synchronously with parents having an opportunity to interact with their teachers (though videos/overview can still be shared).
Our evening will begin promptly at 6:00 pm. If your child has a zero period, your evening will start at 5:45 pm. We will have a YouTube Live Welcome Back Address from our Leadership Team from 6:00 - 6:25 pm. This presentation will provide a brief overview of our instructional program, goals, highlights, and expectations for the school year.
After our welcome address, you will have the opportunity to follow your child’s schedule of classes to meet teachers and staff virtually. Your child’s teacher will provide the video conferencing link and give a brief overview of the class for the upcoming school year. Our Grade Level Coordinators will have virtual rooms for you to visit throughout the night if you have any questions about your child’s four-year plan.
As a reminder, Friday, August 27, is a minimum day (5th period ends at 11:10 am, 6th period ends at 11:52 am). Thank you in advance for your continued support as we navigate through the 2021-2022 school year.

2021-2022 COVID Response Protocols
First and foremost, we thank you for your partnership and support as we strive to put “Kids First, Every Student, Every Day” with the reopening of all schools.
The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain our top priority. All safety recommendations and protocols adhering to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health have been implemented.
The WVUSD 2021-2022 Safe Practices Handbook was emailed to all parents and guardians last week, and it describes the protocols that are in place. We have attached (link below) the handbook with this communication for your reference.
One of the protocols outlined in the handbook is WVUSD’s Response to COVID Situations at School. As linked below, parents will receive a phone call if their child shows symptoms or if their child is in close contact with a person at school with a confirmed positive COVID test.
Parents may receive initial phone calls as a response to positively identified COVID cases. Parents whose children are directed to quarantine will receive follow-up phone calls from our district staff with detailed information. You may receive these follow-up calls during the evening hours.
Aeries One Time Student Health Screening
Parents/guardians must complete a one-time 2021/2022 COVID-19 Student Health Screening form acknowledging responsibility for your child’s daily health screening before entering the school campus. This form is now available on AERIES portal and must be completed for each child that attends WVUSD. A banner will appear in each AERIES account before the start of school.
COVID Testing at WHS and DBHS
Starting August 16, WVUSD will be providing voluntary COVID testing for all WVUSD students and staff. The drive-through clinics will occur at Walnut High (Mondays) and Diamond Bar High (Wednesdays). Please refer to the flyer below and utilize the registration link if you would like to COVID test. No appointments are needed, but preregistration is requested.

One to One Device Gameplan!
Dear Walnut High School Families,
We are excited to announce that we are in the process of transitioning to a 1:1 device school. This means that every student will have access to a device on campus while in the classroom and at home. Over the course of the next four weeks, we will pass out a Chromebook to your child. If your child has a personal device and wishes to use it on campus, they can do so by accessing our Bring Your Own Device Network. If you currently have a district checked-out device, you may continue using that device.
Here is timeline for handing out devices:
- August 16-20: Class of 2025 (Freshman)
- August 23-27: Class of 2023 (Juniors)
- August 30 - Sept 3: Class of 2024 (Sophomores)
- September 7 - 10: Class of 2022 (Seniors)
Our Freshmen and Sophomores will be escorted by their PE teacher to pick up a device during their designated week. Our Juniors and Senior will be escorted by their Social Science teacher during their designated week. If a student is not able to attend with their class, they will have the opportunity to pick up a device on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50 - 3:30 outside the Technology Distribution Center (right next to the library) during their designated week.
Each student must turn in a user device agreement form that is signed by both the student and parent before receiving a Chromebook. Attached is the user device agreement for your reference. Your child will turn in the user device agreement in exchange for a Chromebook.
Please note that by Monday, September 13, every student is expected to have a device on campus for their classes whether district-issued or their personal device.
If you have any further questions, please contact Kevin Wendland at kwendland@wvusd.org.
Tutorial Begins Next Week!
Next week on Tuesday and Thursday, we begin Tutorial. Tutorial is a 50 minute period for students to visit teachers for academic support, intervention, make-up tests, and homework help. Below are the expectations for tutorial and a video we created showing how we scan students into their tutorial classes.

WVUSD Nutrition Services FAQs
All enrolled students will receive meals at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year.
Hot and cold meals are part of the menus and meals will be served "ready to eat" to our students on campus. The choices at the middle and high schools will be extremely limited as we start school, in order to expedite the lines.
Keep in mind that we have to be prepared to serve all students at the school site within the same breakfast and lunch period pre-COVID with limited staffing.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through our "New Normal."
Please contact Evelyn Lovato in nutrition services should you have any questions or concerns OR click the link below.

Students must attend every class, every day, and be on time. In order to receive daily credit, students are to bring all necessary materials to class. Only behaviors befitting the learning environment are acceptable. Students are to comply with all reasonable requests of any staff member. Dress code will be enforced.
