GANDHI DEFIES BRITISH LAWS
Mohandas Gandhi starts a salt march
If someone picked up a piece of salt, then they could be arrested. Laborers needed salt every day to keep people from becoming dehydrated. Gandhi broke the salt laws as the first step to Gain independence. Gandhi told Indians to resist the tax by making their own salt. Gandhi was then arrested which led to more pretests. Lord Irwin signed the Gandhi-Irwin pact, which ended the salt satyagraha on March 5, 1931.
