Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 4, Week 8 - 3 December 2021
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Parents, Carers and friends of Mary’s Mount Primary School
ONE WEEK TO GO ...
I can't believe there is only one week left of the school year - and that I have been part of this fabulous community for a whole year! The time has flown by, and it has been another busy week at MMPS. The last two days I have been attending a CEWA Leadership PD for new Principals. Although it isn't the most convenient time of the year for me to be away from school, it has been an informative and rewarding time. The biggest hurdle is that the past two days have been a 'no device' time so that we can focus on the learning at hand. I feel truly blessed knowing that during this time Mr Smith and Mrs Leech have both been managing activities at school and I thank them for their work and for the confidence they give me knowing things are in good hands.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT & LITURGY INFORMATION FOR FRI EVENING
Tonight is our shool's annual Christmas Concert and Liturgy service. I am really looking forward to the evening as I have heard alot about this wonderful event.
Even though it is meant to be a warm day, the evening can cool down quite quickly, particularly if a breeze comes in. For this reason, please dress your children apppropriately for tomorrow evening with a jacket or cardigan they can pop on when the evening cools down.
A reminder on the formalities:
4.45pm - Gates to the oval will be open for parents and families to arrive. When setting up your blanket or seats, please remember, if you will be seated with a blanket, you can move towards the front directly behind the area where the students will be sitting. If you will be bring chairs, please ensure you are seated towards the back so that everyong has a good viewing position.
5.00pm - From 5.00pm, pre-ordered food will be available for collection from the canteen area. The P&F will also be selling drinks, a coffee van will be available, and 100 memorabilia will also be on sale so please bring cash too.
6.00pm - All students are to move to their classroom where their teacher will greet them.
6.15pm - Liturgy commences on the oval.
End of the evening - All students will return to their class with their teacher at the end of the evening and are to be collected from there.
ORIENTATION
Over the past week as we have held orientation at MMPS for our students, new students, and then our our Year 6 students have headed off to their respective high schools for their introduction to high school. It has been a joy seeing the excitement on everyones faces. The anticipation - and a little nervousnous, is all normal. Last Friday I had morning tea with the parents of new families joining us from PP to Y6 next year. It was lovely getting to know them and welcoming them into our school community. I reassured them that their families would be warmly welcomed to MMPS next year, just as I have been this year. I also know that our new Teachers for 2022 were excited about being here and meeting their students.
STUDENT COMMUNITY SERVICE
While we love to see our past students coming back and helping out with community service, it is important all students email Mrs Leech before the day they would like to come in. We have many requests and can only take a few students at a time, so please ensure Mrs Leach is emailed via erin.leech@cewa.edu.au. Students will be allocated on a first in basis.
LAST WEEK OF TERM - Please join us!
The last week of Term is always a busy one with many events taking place. In addition to the Y6 graduation mass on Tuesday evening, I warmly invite parents and families to join us in the festivities:
Thurs 9 Dec - 8.50am - Please join us for our end of year whole school liturgy and 2022 leadership announcements.
Fri 10 Dec - 8.50am - Please join us for our final assembly for the year including the last assembly for our 2021 graduating class. We will also farewell our teachers who aren't returning next year, and award our Italian certificates.
2.30pm - Ringing of the Bell - I can't wait to participate in this tradition where our new 2022 leaders announce each Y6 student and we farewell them as they each ring the school bell and run through a whole school guard of honour. What a way to end the 2021 school year.
2022 STAFF UPDATES
In Term 1 of next year, Mr Chris Smith will be taking long service leave. I wish him all the best during his time away.
In 2022, Mrs Annmarie Baltov is taking a year of long service leave to spend time with her family. Mrs Dianne Hansen (2022 4K Teacher) has agreed to take on the role of 3 Year Old Kindy Teacher while Annmarie is away. I wish Annmarie all the best next year an enjoyable break.
With Mr Smith being away in Term 1 of 2022, I would like to congratulate Mrs Sinead Muscat on her appointment as Acting Assistant Principal. I wish her all the best in this new role for next year.
STUDENT REPORTS
Student reports will be distributed via SEQTA next Friday 10 December. If you need to discuss anything in your child's report, please email your class teacher to make a time to meet. Teachers will be available until Thursday 16th for a meeting if required.

P&F UPDATE
Our final P&F Meeting of the year will take place from 2pm – 3pm next Tuesday 7th December at the school. This meeting will be short but important as we will be determining who will move in to the key P&F Executive roles and what events we will be supporting in 2022. At present we don’t have enough people nominated for roles so we’d really love some new faces to join us at the meeting and help lighten the load – which isn’t big or difficult at all! 😊 Meetings in 2022 will be a combination of in person and on-line, and the new Committee can determine what time of day those meetings are – day or night or a combination. All mums and dads and family members are encouraged to join us and children are always welcome at our meetings too! For more information about Committee roles please contact us by email. No need to RSVP for this meeting.
A special thank you and goodbye to all of those families who are leaving us this year – especially those with their youngest in Year 6 who are leaving us next week. We thank these families for their many years of contributions and volunteering at our school and wish them all the very best in the future.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Christmas Concert this Friday evening. Our P&F Committee will be selling cold drinks and icy poles from the Canteen area on the night, and those who have pre-ordered their pizza or cheese board dinner can find us there too. Our good friends at the Coffee Van will also be selling tea, coffee, hot and cold drinks, milkshakes and waffles on the night.
Yours in education,
MMPS P&F Committee
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES WEEK @ MMPS
This week has been Digital Technologies week. During the week, the children have been immersed in many exciting digital technologies activities as well as in class engaging lessons. Every lunchtime this week activities have been run in the library and hall including Sphero Challenges, Ozobot and Algorithm Challenges, Minecraft Exploration and Hour of Code. We thank Mrs Muscat for her organisation and leadership of Digital Technologies Week at MMPS.
CANTEEN NEWS
To anyone who has helped out in the canteen this year, thank you for your support. It has been a joy meeting many of you for the first time, and I hope you have had some fun too!
The canteen will be closed next Friday 10 December as we will have depleted our stock for the year.
I look forward to seeing you again next year, and please know you are always welcome to join me in the canteen on a Friday, even if only for an hour or two.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

WE LOVE TO RECEIVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF!
Throughout the year, MMPS run different programs for our students including a number of specialised sporting activities. Recently Tiny Tots Tennis visited our school teaching our children some tennis skills in a fun and positive environment, hopefully instilling the love of sport and physical activity.
Yesterday I received this lovely email from Anthony who ran the program, and so I thought I would share it with you.

*****************************
Hi Emma and Staff,
We have just finished our 4 day Tennis Program at your school.
I have done over 30 different schools this year, and I thought I should let you know that yours was by far the best school we have attended for numerous reasons;
- Your students are all well-mannered and polite,
- Your staff are all accommodating and friendly,
- We had 2 young prac students who helped out and looked like they too were enjoying their visit.
Teresa in the Phys Ed department had equipment organised and set up before we arrived, classes were organised perfectly, even when a few changes were needed due to assembly and other interruptions with Y6 Orientation etc.
Of all the schools we have attended, your school was the best organised and well mannered.
A great reflection on yourself and your staff, and the students in general.
I look forward to returning next year for some more tennis for the children.
