Daniel Wright Junior High School
Outdoor Education Update
In October, a message was sent to all sixth-grade families explaining changes to the Outdoor Education Program. These changes allow sixth-grade students to participate in team-building activities throughout the entire school year, including a capstone experience, so that students can benefit from a greater sense of belonging at Daniel Wright.
We are excited to announce that the sixth-grade capstone experience for this year will be a two-day/one night event at the YMCA Camp MacLean in Burlington, Wisconsin, on Monday, May 8, through Tuesday, May 9.
This overnight experience provides a unique opportunity for both cognitive and affective growth. Focusing on the group nature of the trip, students will bridge the gap between "indoor" and "outdoor" education. Through the natural environment and resources of Camp MacLean and the efforts of district staff, students will experience learning and living apart from traditional classrooms.
This year will be the last overnight experience conducted in sixth-grade. After this year, future sixth- grade students will have a capstone experience that will not include an overnight component.
An informational packet with registration forms, payment information, and trip details will be distributed in the spring.
We wish you a wonderful winter break and we look forward to seeing our students back at school in the new year.
