CCPS Re-Entry for 20-21 School Year
In conjunction with the Superintendent, Board of Education, and Leadership Team, Cecil County Public Schools is pleased to announce that public school education services in Cecil County will resume in a ‘Virtual classroom model’ beginning September 1, 2020.
On September 8, 2020, the school system will begin providing face to face instruction for small groups of students in each school based on the needs of children. After one month of this face to face service delivery model, the performance of this ‘Small group model’ will help us determine if the model can be expanded incrementally.
School and community stakeholders have worked tirelessly in the past several weeks to create a plan for re-entry that we believe is safe and provides optimal services for our children. We fully understand that the community’s opinion on how and when to re-enter our students and staff varies tremendously, but we believe beginning in small and deliberate steps provides the best outcomes possible. Our full plan will be finalized and made available to the public later this week.
During the time of re-entry, we will implement a rigorous safety protocol for our staff and students that has been generated with information from The Center for Disease Control, The State of Maryland, and The Cecil County Health Department. Our complete set of safety protocols can be found HERE. Please understand that our Safety Protocols are a "living document" that will be addressed by our stakeholders weekly and will likely change as we move through these uncertain times. We will continue to keep the most updated version on our website.
It’s important for families to understand that a fully-virtual option will remain available even as we eventually begin to expand in-person instruction. We will also begin to provide direction to schools as to identifying students who will have the option of returning face to face. Finally, we would like to thank the many school system stakeholders who provided input to school system leadership and our Board of Education to help us make this very important decision.
