NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Conferences for February (2/10-2/16)
After several discussions with the staff and our School Improvement Team, it has been decided that we will have our February parent teacher conferences in person. Creating relationships with parents and communicating student progress is better in person. We do know that there is a convenience to zoom conferences and meetings that most of us like. But, again, we feel these 20” are so important for the reasons stated above. Parents will be receiving information soon about scheduling conferences using Pic-A-Time.
The following suggestions might make for a more productive conference:
You may want to ask your child’s teacher:
Does my child participate in classroom activities?
Does my child know the math facts?
Does she/he have self-control in the classroom?
How does my child get along with others?
Does my child read in his/her spare time?
How well does my child comprehend what she/he read?
How well does she/he write?
Does my child appear to be happy at school?
You may want to tell your child’s teacher:
Which school activities your child talks about at home.
If anything has happened lately at home that might affect your child at school?
What you see as some of your child’s strengths and weaknesses?
One conference per student, please. It is our hope that all parents can attend the conferences together and not request two time slots.
New Art Teacher
Our current art teacher Mrs. Gilreath will be teaching full time at Millard South next year and sadly will be leaving Abbott. Finding a part time certified art teacher is not easy. If you know of anyone that may be interested, please have them contact me.
Valentine’s Day Parties
The parties will be somewhat similar to the Halloween parties from October. The parties at school will be at 2:15 on February 14th. We are hoping we’ve found a compromise between what a Covid party could look like and what we’ve done in the past. The students will be able to bring a card and a piece of candy for each of their classmates. The PTO will provide a juice box and a snack. We will not allow baked goods such as donuts, cupcakes, delicious chocolate croissants, individual bags of treats etc. to be brought in from the outside. Students can bring a sack or a small box to collect their cards and candy. We will allow the children to pass out cards to other kids and adults in the building.
This year the fifth graders will be allowed to have their party together in the gym.
CONFERENCES
The window will open today, January 22, and will close on February 9. So be sure to sign up during this time. You can sign up for one time slot per email address. If you have two students in the same class you will need to use different email addresses or call the office for scheduling. Fifth grade parents will sign up for their child's homeroom teacher only.
