Georgia Walk and Roll to School Day

Georgia Walk and Roll to School Day is Wednesday, March 8th.

If your student(s) walk or ride their bike/scooter/skateboard, etc. to school, tell them to stop by the corner of 49th & Battey St. on this day and Ms. Patra will be there to greet them.

Student Accolades

Aria, a 5th year Ellis student, was our school spelling bee champion this year. She represented Ellis at the district level spelling bee where she placed in 8th!
Devin, an 8th year student, attended the Foreign Language Association of Georgia’s middle and high school Spoken Language Contest in February. He received a superior rating for high school level I Spanish!

St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser

Starting this week, Coach Lesley will be selling St. Patrick's day items for $.50-3.00 in the multi-purpose room to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

If you would like to support this cause, you can send cash to school with your student(s).

P.A.C.K. Donations Needed

P.A.C.K. which is committed to providing for the basic needs of children in our community, has recently lost funding and is starting weekly food drives to help with the shortfall. This week, they are collecting boxes of macaroni and cheese (any brand) until Tuesday, March 7th.

If you can donate, your child can bring the boxes to the media center and we will ensure that they get delivered to P.A.C.K.

Counselors' Corner

Spring is nearly here, and we're excited to share with you our March newsletter. To view, click here. This month, all students in grades 1st through 8th will receive child safety lessons using the Monique Burr curriculum presented by educators from Mary's Place. If you would not like your child to receive these lessons, please return this opt out form to your child's teacher: 1st-6th, 7th-8th. Note that a hard copy is being sent home as well.

  • The program is free and access to public library resources and services is free.

Visit the LOPL website for more information.

Grace & Courtesy Emphasis

Throughout the school year, Ellis has a school-wide focus on specific positive character traits. Each teacher may choose to highlight these "Grace & Courtesy" emphases differently, but as a school we follow a general common curriculum.

From February 20th - March 10th, our school-wide Grace & Courtesy emphasis is PEACE.

The language for identifying/naming PEACE in "The Self-Awakened Child" series by Jonathan Wolff:

  • When I feel calm and quiet inside, when I do not let anyone or anything take away my calmness and quiet, I am feeling and being Peaceful.
  • When I try to understand another person's feelings and thoughts, when I talk with him about our problems instead of hurting him or hitting him, I am being Peaceful.
  • When I feel angry or scared and I help myself feel calm and quiet inside instead of hurting someone or telling someone to go away, I am practicing Peacefulness.
