5th and 6th Grade News

Hello Fabulous Fifth and Sixth Grade Families! Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break! Our Fifth and Sixth Graders did a fantastic job for the Christmas Pageant! I am so proud of them!
The Reading Logs are a little different now. They are still due the following Monday and 100 minutes is expected, but the evaluations are a little more in depth.
What Happens When the Weather Turns Bad??
Holy Rosary Regional School follows the Tacoma Public School District during bad weather events. In case of snow or icy conditions, please turn to the news on the radio or televisions and follow the school closures/delays plan for Tacoma Public Schools (in Pierce County).
- A school closure means that school is closed for the day and the there is no before/after school extended care.
- If there is a late start, there is no morning extended care.
Here is what is going on this week:
Monday, 1/4:
- Band
- Late Start due to Inclement Weather
Tuesday, 1/5:
- P.E.- Students can bring weather appropriate clothes (NO SHORTS) to change into for P.E.
Wednesday, 1/6:
- Band
- Parent Service Club Meeting at 8:00 am
Thursday, 1/7:
- All School Mass - please make sure students are in appropriate Mass attire
Friday, 1/8:
- Pay to Dress - $2
- P.E.- Students can bring weather appropriate clothes (NO SHORTS) to change into for P.E.
- Reading Quiz - "The Bracelet"
- Spelling Lesson 13 Test

- Professional Development, Noon Dismissal - January 13th
- 6th Grade Math quiz on Rates and Unit Rates, 5th Grade Math Quiz on Multiplying Fractions - January 13th
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, No School - January 18th
- State of the School Meeting at 6:30 pm - January 20th
What are we learning this week?
- We are focusing on the Christmas season.
- We are practicing responses for Mass, especially in Latin.
- We will also be starting on the Sacraments.
Language Arts:
- We are working on Unit 8 in Vocabulary.
- Spelling Lesson 13 focuses on unstressed syllables at the end of words.
- Our new short story for this week is "The Bracelet" and the skills we are working on are character point of view and making predictions.
Social Studies:
- This week we are reviewing the development of cultures and hunters and gatherers.
Math:
- 6th Grade Math is starting on Rates and Unit Rates.
- 5th Grade Math is starting on multiplying and dividing fractions.
